Latin America, long considered off-limits for Russian military outposts because of its proximity to Washington, is rapidly becoming the latest region targeted for Moscow’s expanding reach.
As the Kremlin was secretly planning its invasion of Ukraine in late February, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced Moscow’s plan to establish a permanent military presence in Latin America, including naval visits to ports in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
Russia is also asking those countries to allow long-range bombers to refuel at their air bases.

Some may find this difficult to comprehend, but there are other ways to dissuade meddling in our hemisphere besides invading.
Say we did, are you saying we should invade Nicaragua and Venezuela and stop them?

You isolationists need to wake up. We have projected power and protected sea routes, trading partners and allies for decades WITHOUT fighting all these wars.
As you’re about to learn, it is withdrawing from the world which is going to get us into a big war. The type in which the homeland will burn as in the fires of (nuclear) hell. And it is coming closer.
You think the other world baddies like Putin just aren’t as smart as you? Gee why do they think THEY want to be in places so far from home? The issue isn’t Nicaragua, it’s Russians and Chinese in Nicaragua.
