You are correct, it will never happen the way that you have just defined it, “That can’t happen without a “Constitutional Convention” and a subsequent 75% vote.”
But is effectively happening now, with 20,000 gun control laws, and more and more added. (Good luck in getting even the 20,000 cut to 15,000) It also effectively happens when the supreme court refuses to hear gun control laws and then decide for the 2nd amendment, thereby letting stand unconstitutional laws. (The recent CT law is a great case in point.)
We have a history where gun registration has lead to gun confiscation. NYC is a case in point.
