Podheretz notes that "[e]ven Mad Men’s Don Draper, the well-to-do man from Westchester, was damaged forever by being born to a hooker in rural Illinois and raised by a vicious farmer who beat him regularly."

It's ironic that I read this article just moments after watching a film titled 'Mud' starring none-other than Matthew McConaughy. It was the epitome of "white trash" country folk cliches and slights by your typically Hollywood ignoramus'.
There will be lawsuits because there aren’t enough minorities as lead characters on successful and profitable tv shows. Except for The Wire.

Another reason why I have not watched broadcast TV since about 2007. I also have never seen one episode of Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc.
When I do watch TV, it is vintage/classic TV shows and old movies.
I admit getting hooked on Mad Men, I think it does a great job of recreating that era.

“White trashing” takes many forms. I’m amazed by the Travelers ad, played many times during PGA golf coverage, showing a white golfer who is enjoying the assistance of the Travelers protective dog, which retrieves his errant shots and deposits them on the green, or other propitious spots, to be discovered as though he had hit them there, much to his own happy amazement and the eye rolling disgust of his “black” playing partner.
This seems to me a blatant allegory of “white privilege”, under which doctrine whites receive unearned advantages. I can scarcely believe that they actually aired this at all, let alone giving it the saturation coverage that I saw.
What are they thinking? Where is this coming from?
Why not 2 whites or 2 blacks. It’s getting silly and doesn’t even reflect well on the Travelers dog.
Well, that's right. The voiceover calls it "a helping hand" or some such, when it is blatant cheating on the face of it.
I'm sure they would offer the "Aw, come on!" defense. They're just kidding around.

On the other hand what are the golf rules for when an animal moves the ball, unseen?
But what I mean is there is no need to pull racism into the metaphor.
