It stands to reason. There cannot be any Ukrainian military bases left on Russia territory.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared, “the Ukrainian soldiers remaining in Crimea will have to make a choice about joining the Crimean forces which would become part of the Russian army or leaving the peninsula.”

There are about 20,000 Ukrainian soldiers still on Crimea territory.

MOSCOW, March 18 (RIA Novosti) – Up to 20 warships and auxiliary vessels of the Ukrainian navy could become part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet following the reunification of Crimea with Russia, a senior Russian lawmaker said Tuesday.

According to Adm. (Ret.) Vladimir Komoyedov, chair of the State Duma Committee on Defense, the Ukrainian navy comprises some 40 ships, 20 of which are currently docked at naval bases in Crimea at Sevastopol and Donuzlav Bay.

The Ukrainian ships that could be taken over by Russia include two corvettes, a command ship, several missile boats, minesweepers and the only Ukrainian submarine – the Foxtrot-class Zaporizhia diesel-electric boat, the admiral said.

The Russian navy will also gain a developed naval infrastructure on the Crimean peninsula, including the Belbek naval airbase and a network of coastal fortifications, Komoyedov said.

I just turned 52, and I continue to be utterly amazed that an average schmuck can follow world events, on the other side of the globe, in nearly real-time.

I still remember sitting in the dark in my room Circa, 1975, tuning through the frequencies with my Halicrafters SX-71 tube radio Ham outfit, listening for news from other nations.....

So you admit the South was correct in taking Fort Sumter?

Guess it ultimately depends on whether you think their secession was legal or not.

You speak as if it’s not 2014.....America is not the same as then and certainly not what it is now... some in Cal. want to split the state...how about Hawaii? Not to mention other states looking at doing so.

MArgarite is right...they’ve been asked for weeks now to either Join with the Russian Military or leave their guns and go home. Apparently the Ukranian Gov. Leaders aren’t interested in removing their men...and would love nothing more than creating a situation to force Nato’s Military involvement....that’s what they want.

Another RT update:

There was an immediate alert on the territory of the HQ and the Ukrainian servicemen lined up in front of the protesters, reports Interfax. The line was broken by cars belonging to activists that entered the territory.

The protesters are calling upon the Ukrainian servicemen to leave the HQ. An ambulance has been called as a precaution.

Some of the participants of the rally have been singing the Russian anthem.

UkrStream.TV cameras which are currently recording the situation near the headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy show no violence on the precinct.

According to Sevastopol news websites, the Commander of the Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, Vice-Admiral Aleksandr Vitko, has just arrived in the HQ of the Ukrainian Navy and negotiations are underway.

Ukrainian armed forces commander Mikhail Kucin, has informed his Russian counterpart Valery Gerasimov that he has authorized the use of military force by troops stationed in Crimea, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

In a phone conversation with Gerasimov, Kucin has emphasized de-escalation and a political solution to the crisis, rather than a violent one. The green light to use force has been given by him in the aftermath of the events in Simferopol, which have led to the death of one Ukrainian soldier and another from the Crimean Self-Defense Forces, while two others were injured.
