Poll Shows Mississippi Senator McDaniel Tied with Cochran in U.S. Senate Race

A new Human Events/Gravis poll of 691 Mississippi Republican voters conducted on December 13 shows state Senator Chris McDaniel and Senator Cochran in a dead heat in the race for United States Senate. A poll conducted by PPP one month ago showed McDaniel within 6 points of the 35-year incumbent, and the National Journal listed McDaniel as the most likely to win of any other primary challenger in the country.

“Overall, the results indicate that Senator Cochran is in a tight spot,” said Doug Kaplan, president of Gravis Marketing, a Florida-based polling and call center company. The poll also asked about other issues and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

Asked if they approved of his job performance, 39 percent said they did and 40 percent responded that they were undecided, he said.

McDaniel campaign spokesman Keith Plunkett said the race will turn on national issues.

“Washington is broken, and it is clear Mississippi voters are looking for a change. For too long, career politicians in Washington have allowed our national debt to grow out-of-control, supported taxpayer-funded bail outs and tax increases, and voted to raise their own pay,” he said.

“As more voters learn about Chris McDaniel’s conservative record of cutting spending, opposing amnesty, and fighting against Obamacare, they are rallying to his candidacy,” he said.

Keith Appell, a senior vice-president at Washington-based CRC Public Relations, which has several conservative public policy, grassroots and issue advocacy clients, said the Republican senators, who support funding Obamacare will have to answer to angry voters, including Senate Minority A. Mitchell “Mitch” McConnell Jr. (R.-Ky.).

This is probably why the Politico has a top headline story on Cochran today...firing up the liberal troops to protect one of their own!

“This confirms what many have sensed since the Defund ObamaCare fight began last summer: that these GOP incumbent Senators are vulnerable, perhaps more so than anyone thought or wanted to admit,” he said.

“These Mississippi numbers would seem to validate Cochran’s reluctance to declare his intentions. If he’s going to win re-election it’ll literally be the political fight of his life. He may have the stomach for it, or he may just hang it up,” he said.

After forty years in Washington pursuing his career, I wonder if Thad Cochran could even find Mississippi on a map.
If poor Thad had to get in a car and drive to Jackson, Tupelo, Biloxi or Itta Bena, I wonder if he could find them without a GPS.

“can someone who knows more than me tell me if this is a good thing?”

Yes it is. Cochran has been in the senate since 1978 and this poll will make the establishment panic. In fact, they already are. See the politico piece today.

If conservatives do well or very well in the mid-terms, the fight will be on to take control over the Republican National Convention.

In 1968, radicals tried to seize the Democrat convention in Chicago, but were beaten back by the “real” liberals. But by 1972 the radicals were powerful enough to take over the Democrat party and purge the liberals, so the party has been radical ever since.

We can but hope that the 2012 election was like 1968 for the Republicans, and that by taking out enough of the RINOs in the midterms, their stranglehold over the party will finally be broken in 2016.

And yes, this is a “take no prisoners” deal. If the RINOs resist, they will be purged. If they sit down and shut up, and vote the conservative line, then they can keep their seats, but without power in the party.

After taking control of the party in 1972, the Democrat radicals made the terrible mistake of running a radical *as* a radical, that is, George McGovern. He was massacred in the election.

So once conservatives are in power, their candidate should not run on radical ideas, but what in effect is stabilization and recovery. While they will want to make a major restructuring of the federal government, that is not a real platform issue compared to getting people back to work and getting the economy moving again.

Not ironically, it is the major restructuring which will get people back to work, but voters want to vote for the ends, not the means.

And once in office, with a recovery and jobs on the way, nothing quite succeeds like success.

A Washington Post article from Mar. 1....

snip

In the deep pool of Republican senators facing tea party primary challengers this year
(half the ones running for reelection face a contested primary), Cochran appears
to be the most vulnerable.

My take on the Mississippi primary ... humbly submitted ...

The choice in the Mississippi (a state won by Romney in 2012) Republican Senate primary is between:

a 77 yr old man (in D.C. over 35 years) with an abysmal conservative rating in a state that is a bastion of conservatism, who wanted to retire but Haley Barbour made him run for re-election

versus Chris McDaniel, a smart, bright, young leader who will help Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Mike Lee end the rule of the permanent political class in Washington, D.C." ...

The following, lyrics by FReeper Rollwage who happens to be Mrs. Duffee, will be performed by the “Boomers” at the DeSoto Town Hall, Monday March 24th @ 6 pm with Senator Chris McDaniel.

Landers Center, 4560 Venture Dr., Southaven, MS. 38671

Sing to the tune of “Bill Bailey Won’t You Please Come Home”

Won’t you come home Thad Cochran,
Won’t you come home,
You’ve been there way too long,
We sent you up there, to do what’s right,
But now you done us wrong

Remember that crazy health care, that gun control,
You voted for was oh so wrong,
Well, it’s really a shame,
And you’re partly to blame,
Thad Cochran won’t you please come home.

2nd Chorus

Won’t you come home Thad Cochran,
Won’t you come home,
Our party’s gone off track,
With Chris McDaniel, we’ve got a chance,
To bring our party back,

So pack your suitcase, and grab your hat,
Then catch a ride and get here fast,
We know you did your best,
But it’s time for a rest,
We hope this term be your
