HEMPSTEAD - The Hempstead school board won't renew the contract of a principal who instructed her students not to speak Spanish, in a rapidly-evolving district where more than half of the students, like many Texas schools, are now Hispanic.
Hempstead Middle School Principal Amy Lacey was placed on paid administrative leave in December after reportedly announcing, via intercom, that students were not to speak Spanish on the school's campus. The Hispanic population of the rural area, roughly 50 miles northwest of Houston, is growing quickly, and Latino advocates say that it's important to allow Spanish in public schools.
"When you start banning aspects of ethnicity or cultural identity," says Augustin Pinedo, director of the League of United Latin American Citizens Region 18, "it sends the message that the child is not wanted: 'We don't want your color. We don't want your kind.' They then tend to drop out early."
Such fast growth is pervasive in Texas, says Steve Murdock, a professor at Rice University and director of the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas. Half of all Texas public-school students are now Hispanic, he notes. "When you look at issues related to education in Texas, to a great extent, you're looking at the education of Hispanic children."
Similar growth patterns, he says, hold true for the rest of the United States: "It's not just Texas."
Civil rights advocates say Lacey's suspension may have set off a campaign to intimidate Hispanics, including the district's superintendent, Delma Flores-Smith. They are calling for the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate possible civil rights violations. An FBI spokesman would not confirm an investigation.

Nothing unites us. we’ve been completely balkanized by language, culture, ethnicity and religion. The left, with the witless assistance of the naive right have pushed their love for ‘diversity’ upon us to the point where we should be seperate nations.

When you don’t speak a country’s primary language at a public school (which English is in the United States),
you give the citizens living there the finger and basically tell them you don’t wnat to learn how to assimilate and respect the culture of the country they are living in.
Speak it in the home and pass it along to your kids. Heck give lessons to those in the neighborhood who want to learn it. But at school speak the primary language of the country in which you live.

How about they speak a the english and mommy and daddy produce el green card as well or we kick their arses out of the country? My brother a few years ago got kicked out of Austria because he overstayed his visa by a few months. And he went there LEGALLY. Meanwhile we got MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of foreign invaders sneaking into this country, making demands, stealing taxpayer money, staying here for YEARS all so the TREASON party can get votes and the RINO party does nothing but hide under their desk.

I wonder if the same line of reasoning would apply to those kids who were banned from wearing apparel with American flags.
Legal immigration which is why the Treason and RINO parties oppose it.
Yes, tell them to speak ONLY Spanish or whatever language from where they came.
Then, when they graduate, or if, they cannot find a job or get a decent one where they have to communicate with the public at large.
That way, only wealthy liberal kids from the elites will get those jobs and be the patrons (Sp)............................

Well that makes a lot of sense if they want to limit their employment area. Lets not offend them, let them only speak spanish so that when they can’t get a job because they can’t speak english the government can give them something for nothing.
Another mindnumbingly stupid idea, but politicaly correct and that makes everything ok.
And the stupidity goes on and on and on. If you can’t speak in English, go home.
Whites are not afforded the same guarantees of cultural celebration. Have you every heard of “White Pride” month? How about “White Awareness” month? Of course not, that would never be tolerated in today’s world of upside-down...
