Kansas, Arizona prevail in voter citizenship suit
The Wichita Eagle ^ | March 19, 2014 | By Dion Lefler

A judge in Wichita has ordered a federal commission to enforce Kansas and Arizona laws requiring documents proving citizenship for new voters.

U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren ordered the Election Assistance Commission to immediately add Kansas- and Arizona-specific instructions to the federal voter registration form.

Those instructions will say that new registrants will have to provide documents proving citizenship before being allowed to vote, as required by state law. --SNIP--

The League of Women Voters and others have said requiring the proofs essentially makes it impossible to register voters in the kind of sidewalk or shopping-center drives that were once common in Kansas.

It will be overturned on appeal after Holder and his Gestapo get involved.

And? These people are too inept to register on their own. Let them return to Oprah and leave the rest of us alone.

Then these same “new voters” they were registering in the shopping malls, continue on to a store and have to use the required ID making a purchase.

FWIW, the last time I went lunatic in public was when I had to show proof of legal residency to exchange a $15 chair and pay the extra money for a $20 one. That's even though they were both cash purchases.

It was during a pre election-day season when any live body they could find was being recruited to register and vote at the same time. This whole thing is *ss backwards. Registering to vote, attend school, or get benefits are ideal opportunities to identify invaders and send them home.

Hopefully, this is new case is a step toward sanity.

Yes, you have to come prepared, just like when you come to register a car, apply for a driver's license, or even get a library card.

Boo-freakin'-hoo.

Voter ID laws violate the voting rights of the dead, fictional, and repeat voters (all part of the Democratic Party’s base). [/sarc]

It is good news. It also stops the 15 million green card holders from voting.

Note that the Supreme Court had indicated in the Minor v. Happersett opinion that citizenship does not guarantee otherwise qualified citizens the right to vote.

Only new voters? I hope we have to show ID to prove that we are the person voting.

Anyway, I’m glad this passed. I moved to Kansas from Missouri 2 years ago. To get my vehicle registered I had to show several things. I had to go back 3 times to get my drivers license (because my original birth certificate would not work because I was divorced and had to bring divorce certificate, then they said oh, a divorce certificate only works when you go back to your maiden name so then I had to write (and pay) Missouri for original marriage certificate). All this when I had a current Missouri DL.

BUT to register to vote, I waltzed right in and basically did nothing! I think I filled out a piece of paper and that was it. I remember mentioning to the lady there that it was so easy to register to vote. It’s way too easy for anyone to register, it should be a sacred trust and you should at least have to prove who you are and that you are legally able to vote.

The League of Women Voters and others have said requiring the proofs essentially makes it impossible to register voters in the kind of sidewalk or shopping-center drives that were once common in Kansas.

There was a time when the League of Woman Voters called themselves non-partisan, and were viewed as a "public service" educational organization which frequently sponsored political debates. If so, why are they so teed off about not being allowed to register aliens and about having to tell voter registrants to bring their citizenship documentation? In all likelihood, they are showing their true (left) colors.

Hope that all states adopt similar proof of citizenship laws, including making it a crime both on the part of the registrant and on the part of the assisting party to register to vote without proof of citizenship.

BTW, what the heck is the function of the "Electoral Assistance Commission"? Get the feeling that the name could have been devised by George Orwell.

Once Holder gets this reversed, just follow his advise and ignore the law. In other words, ignore Holder.

Probably an 'offspring' of the former ACORN group.
