Ukraine announces troop withdrawals from Crimea in bow to Russian annexation

Surrendering to Russia's inexorable seizure of Crimea, Ukraine announced plans Wednesday for mass troop withdrawals from the strategic peninsula as Moscow-loyal forces seized control of Kyiv's naval headquarters here and detained its commander.

Attempting to face down the unblinking incursion, Ukraine said it would hold joint military exercises with the United States and Britain.

Hours after masked Russian-speaking troops forced their way onto Ukraine's main naval base here, forlorn Ukrainian soldiers streamed out carrying clothing and other belongings in bags. A group of local militia and Cossacks, later joined by officers from Russia's Black Sea Fleet, looked on.

Just how many retreating troops Ukraine will have to absorb in what amounts to a military surrender of Crimea was unclear. Many servicemen have already switched sides to Russia, but authorities said they were prepared to relocate as many as 25,000 soldiers and their families to the Ukrainian mainland.

Putin invaded a sovereign nation. Their "referendum" passed under a military occupation from an invading country.

The Crimeans petitioned Russia to protect them and let them again be made part of Russia.

Here's some more propaganda.

The solution to this is simple, as long as people focus on the fundamentals.

The former Warsaw Pact needs to embrace their own second amendment/federalist 46. And we need to jam the global market with btu: oil, goal, gas, nuke. I find it ironic Putin called us out as leaches...let us see mother Russia produce something greater than its cost that they didn’t pump out of the ground.

A lot of them bought it - and Kiev’s crackdown on Russian separatism simply fueled fears the Maidan was anti-Russian and the way Kiev handled it drove almost every one on the island into Russian arms.

It could have been averted had a national unity government been set up. And separatism continues to be a threat in eastern and southern Ukraine.

No the president is busy getting ready for the March Madness, can’t interfere with his basket ball poll. He is a joke and the world knows it. Putin sees right thru him.

The Crimean is Russian only because the Soviets moved the Tartars out and Russians in, mostly in the 1950. Crimea is Russian like Burbank is Mexican

REally?

(The Crimea only became absorbed by The Ukraine when it was transferred in 1954.)

The Crimea has a long history, of course. The Greeks had it in BC and then the Romans and the Tartars etc etc - on up until the late 1700's when it was ANNEXED TO THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE. p>So that' puts their history with Russia a bit further back than 1950, perhaps?

Then, in the mid- 1800's, Russia went to war with the Ottoman Empire to protect the Orthodox Christians - a scenario now repeating itself. (This is a whole other story going on now - With Putin intent on the restoration of the Cathedrals and churches in Russia and the protection of the Orthodox Christians against the muzzies once again. You are aware that the muzzies, our dear leaders 'brothers' are slaughtering Christians again, right? You do know that Putin is the lone world leader calling for the other countries to step in and stop this, aren't you? Not one peep to protect The Christians from OUR leader...only massive intervention, gun running, etc to help his 'brothers' and turn as much of the world as he can over to them - or did you miss the Libya and Egypt illegal actions? (At least the Egyptians rose up and sent the 'brotherhood' packing).

Did you also miss that Turkey, since Putin went into The Crimea, has called for muzzies everywhere to come to the aid of the muzzie Brotherhood in The Crimea/Ukraine, right?

Hmmm - Putin is busy restoring and protecting Christians while OUR leader is intent on rebuilding the Caliphate.

Interesting.

If you want to play that game...Western Ukraine is Ukrainian only because the Poles were kicked out in 1939 by the Soviets.

Actually, if we’re going by the “law” (I know, silly concept) the President of Ukraine asked Russia to help as there was a coup taken place. The leaders in Kiev, in my estimation, have absolutely zero credibility as leaders. They are not the true representatives of the country and as a result they don’t have the authority to tell Russia not to come into the country. Yanokovich is the leader of the country until he is voted out, dies or is impeached. Not sure why everyone is acting like some how that aggressive overthrow of the central government was legal. I think what has really happened here is that what happened in Lybia was the straw that broke the Camel’s back. It was a gross over reach by the western powers and it will cost us all relative stability in the world.

I am of the opinion that if the rest of Ukraine does not want to be annexed by Russia, they had better rapidly adopt the Swiss model of civil defense. This will of course require the rearming of the population - contrary to Obama’s disarmament program that he pushed on to the Ukraine.

What? The former president has the authority to let invaders into the country, but the parliament, the people have no say about an invading army?

Right. Wouldn’t that make him a dictator?

Then you go on to say it was the West who was overreaching? That’s what caused Russia to invade a sovereign nation? Maybe it’s Russia who caused themselves to invade?

Thanks for the lecture, feel better?

Putin's excuse for moving into the Crimean was to “protect” the ethnic Russian majority in the region. This majority was engineered by Stalin in the and finalized in the 1950s in order to dilute political dissent, same strategy as Obama’s amnesty push. Apparently starving Tartars and Ukrainians (7 to 10 million) wasn't efficient.

But, if you want to back a sworn and demonstrated (2008 crash) enemy of the US, its your choice. The only reason he invaded was that his crony got ran out after murdering 80 civilians.

And, don't think for a minute Obama is in opposition to the motherland, he made his side very clear regarding “flexibility”
