On March 19th Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) used his first veto to strike down a bill "meant to clarify state law" regarding how gun owners without a concealed carry permit may store firearms in a vehicle.
The bill, HB 962, was sponsored by Delegate Benjamin L. Cline (R-Rockbridge).
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the bill said "the weapon would be considered secured if it was in a container or compartment such as console or glove compartment that was closed but not necessarily locked."

Just the beginning from this piece of crap Hillary wanna-be.
My grandfather drove a buckboard to town with a rifle under his seat every day before cars were here.
I drove a `51 Dodge with a .22 LR, open bolt, in the rear window so the NY State troopers could see it, 50 years ago.
Both were the gov accepted norm/law/right of the day.
These govs/cronies Obummer, NY CT VA CA are communists.
They have to be removed from office...throw out the bums and throw out these anti-constitutional “phony laws”
Elections have consequences. IIRC it is the Beltway crowd around DC that drew in the votes to get McAwful elected.
Too bad for regular Virginia folk...
As a lifelong Virginian in Fairfax County, we understand in a very deep way the culture clash between us and our liberal friends on the other side of the river.
There is absolutely no reason for anybody that lives in Virginia to ever go into Maryland, ever.
Ok, maybe for a Redskins game and when the Caps where playing at the Cap Center, other than that and even for family, there is no other reason.
I sent Ken Cuccinelli an email during his election bid and suggested that he paint McAuliffe as some one that will turn VA into MD. This could have or would have been a winning strategy.
For those that are not from the area I’m certain those that are, can attest to the cultural divide that exists between these two states.
Too bad Virginians. You let the illegals in, and didn’t fight hard enough. You probably let them get away with cheating, too. A Repugnican’t has to win by 10% now, to win by 3%.
I absolutely hate that I'm going to type this...
...but I can't argue with that.
Damn Breitbart's staff for making me agree with that a$$hat. Is this where that site's going? Hype?
Text of Virginia HB962:
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. That § 18.2-308 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows: § 18.2-308. Carrying concealed weapons; exceptions; penalty. A. If any person carries about his person, hidden from common observation, (i) any pistol, revolver, or other weapon designed or intended to propel a missile of any kind by action of an explosion of any combustible material; (ii) any dirk, bowie knife, switchblade knife, ballistic knife, machete, razor, slingshot, spring stick, metal knucks, or blackjack; (iii) any flailing instrument consisting of two or more rigid parts connected in such a manner as to allow them to swing freely, which may be known as a nun chahka, nun chuck, nunchaku, shuriken, or fighting chain; (iv) any disc, of whatever configuration, having at least two points or pointed blades which is designed to be thrown or propelled and which may be known as a throwing star or oriental dart; or (v) any weapon of like kind as those enumerated in this subsection, he is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. A second violation of this section or a conviction under this section subsequent to any conviction under any substantially similar ordinance of any county, city, or town shall be punishable as a Class 6 felony, and a third or subsequent such violation shall be punishable as a Class 5 felony. For the purpose of this section, a weapon shall be deemed to be hidden from common observation when it is observable but is of such deceptive appearance as to disguise the weapon's true nature. It shall be an affirmative defense to a violation of clause (i) regarding a handgun, that a person had been issued, at the time of the offense, a valid concealed handgun permit.See the rest here...
B. This section shall not apply to any person while in his own place of abode or the curtilage thereof.
C. Except as provided in subsection A of § 18.2-308.012, this section shall not apply to:
No it is the legal immigrants that are voting Dem. Virginia is a purple state trending solid blue within a decade. We are outnumbered. It will be very difficult for a Rep to win a statewide race.
That commie sumb|tch is going to keep on, until he finally maneuvers around to where he ends concealed carry in Virginia. Count on it.
Gun control laws have only one purpose: to criminalize conservatives and isolate them as “bad people”.
As long as we still have Louisville Sluggers to set these clowns straight.
No sense giving them an excuse to round up the good stuff.
10. Any person who may lawfully possess a firearm and is carrying a handgun while in a personal, private motor vehicle or vessel and such handgun is secured in a container or compartment in the vehicle or vessel. For purposes of this subsection, the term "compartment" includes a console, glove compartment, or any other area within or on the vehicle or vessel that possesses the ability to be closed and the term "secured" means that a container or compartment be closed but not necessarily locked; and
You and Terry deserve each other.
What good is it if it’s locked up and not accessible?
Will the gangbangers be locking up their guns before and after their drive-bys?
You’ve lost me. What’s your point?
“Concealed” is the key word.
Read the Bill.
Thank you Libertarians and others using a another party gravy train scam.
I’m not going to debate this. Flame away, I could give a crap. My final statement:
I’m a minority in a prog state, have a CC and know the laws of all the states through which I may travel. I find it’s maddening my state has no reciprocity; I have to know the laws in my state as well as know & abide by the general gun laws of those other states. I hope Virginia has preemption, but it matters not to me as I will never drive through that state. Frankly I think Texas’ laws should be adopted nationwide and there be 50-state reciprocity.
If I didn’t have my CC it would be OC, secured, or always on my way to the range....and secured would be in a lockbox or range bag in the trunk. Too many guns get stolen as crimes of opportunity from lazy gun owners’ cars. I’m not advocating nanny state, but simply stating a handgun not in a holster or on the adjacent seat should be in a lockbox or in a (range) bag/container in the trunk.
That’s common sense in my book. If the laws get more restrictive in my state, as they keep trying to do, I’m forfeiting my CC and OCing EVERYWHERE; I WILL end up on the news, guaranteed.
Not good enough? TS
“Too bad Virginians. You let the illegals in, and didnt fight hard enough. You probably let them get away with cheating, too. A Repugnicant has to win by 10% now, to win by 3%.”
Well, maybe the Republican candidate has to win by 15% now-—to account for the Losertarian candidate placed on the ballot with help from the DemocRATS. Nice going Virginia-—enjoy your lives under your new progressive overlords.
i think all we have to do is see if the last 50-60 years of gun laws have made life harder for law abiding citizens to exercise their rights, or made it easier,
and then we can clearly see if that right is being infringed or not. i think everyone here knows where i stand. if you don’t read the tagline.
Nothing like a goose stepper. One of the elitist from the left that sponsors on demand murder of the unborn. amazing how these idiots get elected.
That's EXACTLY right. I forgot about that. You are 100% correct. FAKE LOSERTARIANS fooled the fools.
The only time it worked in our favor is Nader helping Bush win Florida in 2000.
Seriously? That needed to be clarified? They’ve been citing people for violating the CCW rules for guns in their cars??
“You also ask whether a center console, glove compartment or any other “ container or compartment’’ must be locked to constitute a “ secured container or compartment.” The legislative history of the 2010 amendment shows that the container or compartment storing the handgun need not be locked for the exception to apply. When § 18.2-308 was amended to include § 18.2-308(B)(10), “ locked in a container or compattment’’ was considered as possible statutory language; 13 however, “ secured in a container or compartment” was the wording that was ultimately adopted. 14 By choosing “ secured” instead of “ locked,” the General Assembly evinced its intention that a handgun may be carried in a vehicle without requiring the container or compartment storing it to be locked.”
This was given as an opinion by the previous AG, Ken Cuccinelli. The problem is that we have a Rat AG now, and people are worried that his interpretation will be the opposite of Cuccinelli’s, so the legislature tried to clarify it, but their clarification was vetoed by McAwful.
Traditional Virginians did not elect this governor. Va. has gone the way of NY. Welcome to the “Brave New World”.
1. If it is locked up, it is not accessible.
2. It is MY car.
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”
We keep getting robo calls from Rove’s group about what a disaster McAwful is....
The frustrating aspect is not being able to say that if they had supported Cuch, we wouldn’t be in this mess...and tell them this is what they wanted.
Screw them all.....
Bless your heart but from what I see and know about No VA, it probably would not have made a diff.
With govt workers on the govt boob, illegals voting unchallenged, liberal sensibilities running rampant and unchecked development, once again, we have a relatively small geographic area dictating policies to the rest of the state.
Also, until the Opposition Party takes voter fraud seriously, there will never be an honest election. (Example: Herring’s win)
That’s some seriously tortured logic right there.
Ignorance is bliss and wears a striped suit with pink underwear
Thanks. Quite frankly I wasn't sure just what the OP was advocating for.
It's pretty sad that they have to continuously try to erode our rights by semantic games (secured or locked). With good guys, neither way matters. They have no nefarious motive whether the gun is "secured" or "locked" (though locked is just idiotic). With bad guys, they don't care what the law is.
