Polls: Americans Repeatedly Say "No!" to U.S. Intervention in Ukraine

21 March 2014

In polls taken over the past few weeks by a number of opinion survey and news organizations, the American people have sent a remarkably unified message to President Obama and the U.S. Congress: “Stay out of Ukraine!”

Despite being peppered with a constant onslaught of dramatic news video footage from Kiev and the Crimea, as well as a visit to the Obama White House by Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk, and the usual stable of policy “experts” from the Brookings Institution and the Council on Foreign Relations advocating more “robust” U.S. intervention, Americans across the political spectrum remain opposed to still another foreign venture.

A Pew Research Center poll reported on March 11 that in a national survey of over 1,000 adults, Americans, by a nearly two-to-one margin (56 percent vs. 29 percent), say it is more important for the United States to “not get too involved” in the situation with Russia and Ukraine than to “take a firm stand against Russian actions.” The breakdown along party lines, for those expressing opposition to greater involvement was Republicans, 50 percent; Democrats, 55 percent; Independents, 62 percent.

I’m one of them. This is the European Union’s mess. Let them take care of their own backyard.

The American _resident starved the American military from adequate funding. The American _resident subjects American military to horrible and unwise ROE. The American _resident has gorren rid of good military leaders and replaced them with gay friendly puppets.

All this means is that America is no longer prepared to get WWIII going at this time.

Sad, but true.

We don’t have to get WW III going. We do need to provide the minimal support Ukraine requested to defend themselves. I suspect we have access to lots of weaponry in Libya if it all hasn’t been shipped to Syria.

For some reason our SEALs were johnny on the spot when the Libyan government asked that an oil filled North Korean tanker be stopped. I think it’s time for a quid pro quo. Tell the Libyans to open the Gaddafi store for the Ukrainians.

This is a Seinfeld poll and a Seinfeld story.

It’s a story about nothing.

No sane person is mentioning going to war with Russia.

The G8 should ban Russia and economic sanctions are adequate for the “Iraq of Eurasia”.

Take this for what it is worth. I hold all most everything I read on the internet as tinged with propaganda. So I must take some from both sides to get an idea of where the middle is. It was originally from Lew Rockwell’s site.

"Do you prefer Ukrainian soldiers go to their deaths ill equipped?"

See, this is what I mean?

WHY IS IT MY FAULT IF SOMEONE DIES.

Either way, the USA (and that means me) is going to be blamed for people dying. I'm sick and tired of being blamed for stuff like this. I didn't cause the situation and I'm not responsible and if I'm going to be blamed either way (which you know is true, the USA is always blamed) then I say NO NO NO to everything having to do with getting involved.

No, the deaths are not on my head and you can't guilt me into it. And shame on those who are trying to guilt our country into getting into yet another foreign conflict.

Also, WHY CAN'T THE EUROPEANS SEND THEM ARMS?

Why does it always have to be us?

What’s the problem? Would you rather they be given to the Syrian invaders that are killing Christians? FWIW, Christianity is the predominant religion in Ukraine.

It is our business since we were signatories to the Budapest Memorandum.

Very much so.

Is it worth going to war over? No!

We’re at the very difficult “it’s been thoroughly botched and is too late to do it right; but need to not make it worse” stage.

Fixing this going forward probably requires removing the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State, and then giving the new team time to get in to gear.

you are wrong, we do have interests there, we just are in no position to defend since the effing administration has run up our debt and decimated our armed forces

You forgot: broken or degraded most of our alliances; has been untrustworthy enough that no one trusts him, thus even diplomacy starts at zero.

Huh?

The US was the leader of the Free World. Once we stop evil, i.e. Russia, Iran, China wins. With weak puny leadership by America, world disorder will grow exponentially. Three more years of weak puny American leadership will allow evil to slink into many nooks and crannies around the world. It will cost those in the direct path of the dark wave heavily. It will cost the rest of us in ways we cannot today imagine. Think of "unintended consequences" and think of "bite us in the arse".

True. And Venezuela is in our backyard. If we’re going to start interfering, let’s start there.

With this President?

Best thing we can do is DRILL DRILL DRILL, and decrease Russia’s leverage in energy.

But enviro-ninnies will never allow it.

Ukraine was once ‘united’ to Poland

Yes, and they got Western Ukraine, by kicking the Poles out, at the end of WWII.

We wasted our military Capital on defending Muslims and getting involved in intra-Arab squabbles, like Iraq-Kuwait.

— Bill Clinton was a signatory, I don’t recall the Senate ever ratifying it.

There’s also the follow-up agreement where Senators Durbin and Obama got Ukraine to destroy the bulk of the conventional Soviet arms they had (we paid for it); and President Obama reaffirmed.

Ukraine sealed their fate when they decided to give up their nukes.

Stupid.

Thanks for that link. We can see where the EU lies on the matter of a secure populace. They’d rather the people be undefended, than support their own foreign policy.

May be Russia will claim that she needs to invade Brighton Beach, NYC because Russian citizens are being abused by ObamaCare? ; )

Sooner of later Russia will be stopped. Question is: Is it easier to do now or will it be easier later?

I am assuming you are saying “Hell No” to the military option?

I have kept quiet on Ukraine but I do not think Russia will stop at the Ukraine. If Obama does not stop Russia now who will stop Russia tomorrow? You do know that Russia surprised us with its navy in Cuba just three weeks ago, right?

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/28/russia-spy-ship-docks-havana-cuba

On Wednesday in Moscow, the defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, said Russia planned to increase its military projection abroad, including in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
