Looking at all the candles in the above photo, my first thought is: Why can’t the protesters find a carbon-neutral way to express their displeasure? Isn’t burning less fuel the reason why they are against the pipeline in the first place?
I’m reminded of an anecdote from the fringe-y book “Morning of the Magicians” — someone pointed out to Hitler that embracing both the Hollow Earth (which isn’t like it sounds — the idea was that we live on the *inside* of a spherical surface, and it’s rock in all directions infinitely) and the Eternal Ice “theory”, and the Big A responded that idealogy doesn’t have to be coherent. We like to think of him as a madman, or as stupid, and his likeness should be in the dictionary to illustrate “criminal”, but whatever else he was, he was a political genius.
