Comcast Cable Miseries!
Meshuge Mikey | March 23 2014 | Vanity

Posted on 03/23/2014 7:13:24 AM PDT by MeshugeMikey

Yesterday... Comcast cable...my internet service provider...for the TIME BEING....had a Planned Outage,...in order to upgrade equipment that services this area.

No Prior Notice was given to paying customers,

During my call to :customer service" Yesterday...no mention was made of that fact that this WAS a planned outage.

This Morning I experienced another Outage.

Today's call to comcast customer service was Unbearably frustrating.

The representative told me...that this was a planned outage...and an unplanned outage. AGAIN no announcement was made PRIOR to the outage. They do have an EMAIL SERVER dont they? Would it have taken a tremendous effort and great expense to ALERT CUSTOMERS of these matters prior to the planned outages?

Im in Marin County California, and looking for a better Service Provider.

Thank you

Lilly Tomlin used to do a bit with the catch phrase, “we’re the phone company and we can do whatever we want.”

I must be lucky or weird. I have not had many problems with comcast. Yes the occasionally service burps and once the cable box died over a weekend but got it replaced monday.
Then again i never had any problems with kaiser permanante for health issues though i am not with them now.

So basically I have the same thing now. Hundreds of services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon are all on the devices I have already. Many are free, most are not. ROKU more or less consolodates many, if not all of them.

I also dislike Comcast but outside of larger urban areas the infrastructure costs would render competition less likely. Cable is what economists call a natural monopoly.

Isn’t that was said about the phone company way back when? Just charge for the use of the infrastructure and let the games begin!

If I told you what I think of CONcast, I would be thrown off this site. I have dealt with the same as you in the past week. You can’t get anywhere with their awful customer service because they barely speak English and they don’t care.

They have this thing where they call you back a half hour later to survey you about your experience with them. They called me and confirmed that I called them. The next question was for me to rate them between 1 to 5 .Five being that your call was orgasmic, one being that the whole thing sucked.

I pushed one and 15 seconds later they said, your call has now ended. LOL That sucked worse than the prior call. LOL

Once you get your cable signal back then try http://www.voozy.tv
It is like Roku and the others. You get the iPlayer at no charge for the BBC which means the Top Gear show which I watch.

Try http://www.watchseries.lt
That is Lt at the end. Many current shows in 720 hd along with all the old shows you can think of.

You can cut your cable bill by a lot by getting your shows online and cancelling the tv portion of cable. I figure to save nearly $1,000 the first year by paying $40 a month for internet only instead of $122 for endless repeats of Pawn Stars....

I use a Samsung Galaxy Note tablet (holds 64gb sd card + 16gb internal) which has a IR blaster so it can be used as a remote control. Using The “Video Player” app they have, you start to watch your shows and then press a button and it goes to your wifi enabled tv.
It can detect your computer if you have a wifi enabled router so you can store your shows there.

I have a LG smart tv. Any wifi capable tv will do. Mine has 3 hdmi and 3 usb ports.

If you use Google Chromecast ($35 to buy) it will use up 2 usb ports. For Chromecast you download their app on your pc and then go to any site using the google browser to watch a show then press their icon in the upper right corner to put it on your big tv. The app is not available yet for android tablets.

I also have a external WD My Passport Ultra 2TB drive that holds various shows that I can bring up on the tv like a jukebox.

Here is what the original poster may end up like if cable does not start working again...

It All depends on who the approved carriers are, Verizon can’t compete in AT&T’s area and vice a versa, Time Warner or Comcast, etc.
