Former President Jimmy Carter says he corresponds with foreign leaders the old-fashioned way through snail mail because he suspects his communications are watched by intelligence agencies.
I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored, Carter said in an interview with Andrea Mitchell that was aired Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press.
And when I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write the letter myself, put it in the Post Office and mail it, because I believe if I send an email, it will be monitored, Carter said.

Only if they were in dire need of a good laugh.
As I recall, the killer rabbit story brought a certain ridicule to Jimmy.
Many other things brought ridicule to him also, of course.
I remember seeing Carter describing a meeting with Reagan in the Oval Office after the election in 1980.
“He asked no questions; he took no notes,” Carter said, describing how he gave Reagan a survey of the “issues” and foreign policy problems.
It was so obvious that Carter was trying to stick the knife in and twist it—trying to portray Reagan as stupid and disengaged. What came through, of course, was that Reagan thought Carter was, as he once called him, “that little s-—,” whose meanderings were not worth jotting down.
Not only does the USPS digitally photograph the front and back of each letter, it most probably has some DHS/NSA permission to open and record the contents of any letters it pleases, as well.
Back to the era of horseback mail packets, personal messengers and sealing wax. That’s when the phrase “behead the messenger” came about, if foul play was suspected.
Um, no Jimmy...nobody even listened to you when you were PRESIDENT.
Oh, wait...
In Sept. 2012, Jimmy Carter broke the record for the longest ex-Presidency in U.S. History.
Jimmy Carter has been painfully self important as of late. Prior to billy-the-sink, we didn’t hear such self agrandizement from former US presidents.
We thought: not.
I doubt anyone cares what he writes-Jimmy Carter adds a welcome rush of schadenfreude-such a legend in his own mind...
Or a nice ‘used’ recliner, lol.
Actually, I thought more like you. I agree with all that he was pathetic, like Obama. But it’s really bad that even a former president has to fear his own government. It’s bad that we all do.
Jimmy is giving NSA too much credit.
Ha. “I Don’t Want a Bunny Wunny.”
I guess the genius “nuk-ee-uh engineer” never head of encryption.
The NSA is intensely interested in the exact number of sheets of toilet paper used by 73 year old Mrs. Edna McGuillicudy, of 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Podunk, Nebraska. This is because she is intensely paranoid about being watched through her electrical outlets, and the NSA is desperate to find out how she knows they are watching her ballroom waddle-waltz in her underwear with her partner, her obese tomcat, Snookums.
Because, NATIONAL SECURITY!
