Even the opening statement is wrong. Phelps didn’t protest against a morally bankrupt society, he and his inbred retard family did everything they could to take a big steaming dump on America. I’m glad the miserable old coot is dead.

Hate and How to Overcome It: How Should We Respond to the Tragic Death of Fred Phelps?

Tragic death? Yes, indeed! His actions seem to indicate a non-saved person. If he was not saved (only God knows) and died in that state, it was indeed tragic.

Two things struck me.

One was absolutely NO mention of how connected he was to Al Gore and the Democrat Party through the late 80s and even into the 90s when he attended the Clinton inauguration. Remember that this type of hatred had its home in the Democrat Party for years. Now they want to whitewash that.

Second, the press and "experts" they interviewed can't help trying to suggest that a lot of other conservative Christians hold his beliefs:

“If you took away [Westboro’s] flamboyant style, you’d find that quite a lot of people share their point of view, to a fair extent"

Yeah, right.

Gotta love that they use a hate group SPLC to counter another hate group!

His legacy of picketing funerals of military veterans and disaster victims, promoting coarse language to condemn conduct he viewed as amoral, and waging legal battles that protected his actions under the First Amendment,...

...earned him an international reputation of a man’s whose absolute conviction was never swayed in the face of widespread contempt.

I disagree with this. This would mean that he was at least respected for sticking to his guns.

I have seen no evidence whatsoever that this group of people led by Phelps, was viewed by anyone with anything other than extreme contempt. He wasn't respected on any level whatsoever.

Whatever sound message he may have at one time had, it preceded him in death decades earlier.

“arguably the most obnoxious and rabid hate group in America.”

No, the Democrat Party still holds that title.

It won’t surprise me if some group decided to stage a public, unauthorized memorial service for Fred Phelps. The image of Fred Phelps will either be hung in effigy or beaten as a painted pinata. A memorial service would be held for the expressed purpose of getting together and talking about the negative impact his ‘church’ has had on others, year after year, frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit. Someone needs to make a documentary about this groups’ toxic effect on it’s community.

“The level of his vitriol, the savageness of his comments, were just unmatched anywhere,” says Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center

Not true,. Mr. Potok. You and the people at SPLC (a well-known hate group, like Westboro) can easily match it. You do so many times each and every day.

Nobody’s death should be celebrated, not even a person as vile as Fred Phelps. That which is Life and gives life, whatever you name choose to use, chose to give the world Fred Phelps, for some reason, one which I admit I don’t understand and I’m sure most people don’t.

Nevertheless, he was a human being with a family and they are (mostly) grieving. As hateful a lot as the Westboro group is, rejoicing at anyone’s death is unseemly and inhuman.
