While they are heartened by hopes that global warming is true. How messed up is that?
Another of N excuses ( where N is a rapidly increasing number) where the D students of science explain why none of their predictions on climate change have proved true.
Heck, they cannot even approach the success of a guess.
And, of course, low IQ journalists eat it up.
My best guess is it boils back to matter being unable to be created or destroyed by man.
Sea levels began to rise 18k years ago at the end of the last glacial period. They have risen about 135 meters since then which is an average of 7.5 millimeters per year. That is an average of 750 mm per century (29.5 inches) which is far more than the average over the last century.
From 1880 to 2000 sea level rose about 20 cm or just under 8 inches. Far far less than the nearly 30 inches per century average over the last 18,000 years.
You just don’t understand. Science is complicated. Just believe us. We know what is best and stop asking questions already.

That ain't all they do...
The real problem they are trying to cover up is that the missing heat (missing from the atmosphere) is supposedly in the ocean waiting to pounce (it can’t, but that’s another story). If the missing heat is going into the ocean, then the ocean must expand and sea level must rise more than observed. But it’s not. So they are desperately trying to come up with any possible explanation for why the sea level is not accelerating.
Why? I realize that the statement isn't always true, but I believe it is true for most temperatures.
