First lady, daughters give the slip to photographers and take toboggan ride off Great Wall

Just one day after taking issue with China’s “Great Firewall” of media restrictions, Michelle Obama on Sunday pulled a fast one on photographers hoping to capture something more than the predictable shot of her strolling with daughters along the Great Wall of China.

With daughters Malia and Sasha in tow, Obama and her handlers managed to distract U.S. and Chinese journalists while she and her daughters exited the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall via the touristy toboggan that races visitors from the wall’s heights. No news photographers memorialized the moment.

It was a brilliant fake-out by a publicity-weary presidential spouse, who seems to yearn for fun moments that won’t be accompanied by hundreds of camera clicks. Reporters thought she would descend on a gondola from the Great Wall, the same way she’d gone up and the journalists had gone down.

“I guess that rather large black man behind her is a Local”

Nah, probably just another family grifter member along for the ride, sucking up taxpayer money.

Can you imagine if Barbara Bush were to do that? I can just imagine the press reporting on it.

YOUR RIGHT OLD YELLER...

Just hate and feel bad to admit I’m ashamed of the leaders of a place called, AMERICA..

a Nation my dad served, brother served and my husband served, and I was always so Proud. I don’t believe none of the three would have served under Clinton or Hussein O. today.

Indeed, and the china was paid through private donors.

The china was left with the White House.

Basketball Bambi, the wookie and her offspring and her mother are taking everything for themselves. It’s gross and disgusting. Even the repulsive Clintons never got this low and greedy and contemptuous of the rest of us.

I guess the Clintons still had a little fear, but as long as Obama remains a media-anointed celebrity, which he will be as long as possible even if he has to use intimidation of the press to do it, Obama and all his hideous family have nothing to fear. If the press turns on them, though, they’re toast.

In Mutianyu village, merchants attempted to hide t-shirts showing President Obama in a Mao hat. Normally such shirts are sold everywhere. After numerous inquiries and much prodding, one vendor produced a box of them. Almost immediately, several other vendors urged her to put the shirts away.

Everywhere is right. I was at Mutianyu last fall. We were there for a conference and meetings, but one of our party had never been in China and we had a free morning before a midafternoon flight home, so the Wall was a no-brainer.

From the vendors one would draw the conclusion that Obama is a regular Chinese mascot. There was more Obama stuff than Mao stuff. Aside from those two, I don't recall any other individuals being peddled.

She got lucky on the visibility. When we were there, the smog severely limited visibility. One lost sight of the base of the ridge before getting halfway up. The Wall can't help but be spectacular under any conditions, but visibility was under a half a mile.

Missed the toboggan on the way down. Good excuse for going back.

And that’s why she brought along the white hut photog and then released the picture. “Here’s a photo of me ditching the photographers.” Cognitive Dissonance?

No camera clicks then how come I am seeing her face in the picture. Even without the media it seems she and her husband are shoved in our faces.

I’ve been on the wall several times, but my most memorable was when in fog. I was high up, and there weren’t many people around, but there were a few moments when I was totally alone — in the thick fog. It was a unique feeling.
