BREAKING NEWS: Malaysia Airlines exec says PM statement likely to give definitive information on possible location of #MH370. Via WSJ

Its in the ocean ...

Isn't this a little like getting Titanic relatives together and telling them the ship sank ???

If it were my family member I don’t know that I’d be satisfied with their answer of where they are till something substantial was recovered.

In other words, they will never be found, and nothing more can be done. This all sounds too fishy.

They're on the Island - Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Said, Hurley, and the rest of 'em ...

IMHO it is not over until they retrieve the debris and can identify it as from the missing airplane. There is a lot of “junk” floating in the oceans.

Do I believe the plane could have gone down SouthWest of Perth where they say it is? Sure, that is plausable. Do I believe the plane was hi-jacked. Yes, that is also a plausible theory. I am just going to wait and see with out jumping to conclusions. Just going to keep an open mind on the whole thing.

1) Why don’t the planes making the rounds in the search lower baskets (or something like that) and retrieve the stuff that they’ve seen rather than wait for a ship to get to the area to find it?

Impossible. Going too fast to operated like that.

And the Navy has sent a ship to the area to search for the black box so presumably it will also pick up whatever other identifying details are retrievable. The fact of a crash certainly doesn’t cancel out the theory that someone in the cockpit was responsible for the plane’s disappearance.

Yep. I’m not buying it, unless they find a piece of the plane, and even then I might not buy it. I think it’s very unfair to the families to say that they just have to accept that it’s in the ocean, with no evidence found. I’m still thinking it’s in the ME.

Whoa-whoa-whoa! The families were notified by text message? Please tell me I’m reading that wrong.

My problem with the hijacking is... Where did they take it? How could they fly that far (to land) with no one seeing it on radar? And how do you hide a 777 AND keep that knowledge quiet? just doesn’t seem plausible.

And if they hijacked it to crash it in the open ocean...why? To what end? Terrorists like to advertise what they’re doing. A “terrorist” act that no one ever finds out about really isn’t a terrorist act.

Not gonna happen. I’ve already seen people on this thread saying that if debris are found and confirmed to be from MH370, it won’t prove anything because “they” have had enough time to plant debris now.

We’re living in a time when a lot of people know the government does lie and cover up scandals. A time when institutionalized mental patients, incarcerated felons, and every crackpot in a basement, has access to the internet. A time when a largely uneducated news media is so ratings driven that they’ve turned the news into reality TV, complete with psychics.

It’s only going to get worse. Count on it.

That's what makes the case for this being a hijacking or a terrorist act so stunningly weak...hijackers and terrorists want publicity, for the most part. They want to bring attention to their cause. And there is little value in hijacking a plane and telling the pilot to take it to McMurdo Station in the Antarctic.

On another note...this General McInerney on Fox News needs to issue a retraction, at the very least. He has done a great disservice by fomenting the rumor that this plane was in Pakistan, when in truth and in fact, what's left of the plane and its passengers and crew are under 12,000' of water in the Indian Ocean. If I were Roger Ailes, I'd be on the horn to my news director, telling him that the only thing I want to hear General McInerney say on the air is that he was tragically wrong about this whole thing, and further, that he apologizes for leading any viewers to entertain the vain hope that anyone on that flight made it out alive.

ELT transmissions are received by satellite. I think we need a statement from the powers-that-be regarding whether any ELT-sent signal suggested a plane could have gone down in this area.

Any plane going into the water would have sent an ELT signal. Absence of such evidence could be problematic for the current theory put together by multiple people.

Any country's submarine anywhere near this area would have certainly heard pings from the black box of a downed commercial jet, and presumably would have reported it. I'm strongly tempted to conclude there was no such pinging to be heard in this area.

You talk like a Leftist, with all that verbose wanting to silence other people and demanding apologies. The general is certainly capable of good discernment. If the sources believing some new, yet-unseen, tangible evidence for the current theory of a downing SW of Australia location are persuasive enough to override McInerny's previous sources, I trust he'd backtrack.

I have yet to hear any convincing, new evidence yet associated with the current theory.

By “conspiracy theory”, you mean the belief that governments lie? Only loons believe such nonsense.

While the aircraft suffering a catastrophic electrical/mechanical failure which ultimately caused it to wind up in the Indian Ocean is indeed a plausible explanation for what happened, it doesn't explain the early reports of the pilot calmly signing off with his "good night" several minutes after the plane made that sharp left turn.

Perhaps this has been explained since it first was publicized (and I missed it), but it certainly seems odd that neither pilot was in a state of panic given the timeline of what was supposed to have occurred in-air.
