SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The problems refugees face after relocating in Sioux Falls are relatively mundane compared to what they faced at home.

But an unfamiliarity with household appliances and cleaners, for example, is a real hurdle. A new housing orientation program by one of the city’s largest property management companies is explaining these everyday necessities.

More refugees are coming to Sioux Falls every year, and with them come different cultures.

“We’ve got to embrace it,” said Tannen Loge, vice president of property management for Lloyd Cos., which has more than 3,000 apartments in Sioux Falls. “It’s very important that we provide housing for individuals that feels like their home.”

>> teach them to put the paper in the toilet...

In most all Turd World countries, that’s all that goes in the toilet. The paper is thrown in a nearby basket. I recently had it out with a local Mexican restaurant’s manager about this. He said he had to put baskets next to the crapper because otherwise used TP was often dropped on the floor.

I asked “So how ‘bout you put up a sign in Spanish?” Duh.

“It’s very important that we provide housing for individuals that feels like their home.”

Mud and stick homes will do it. Daub and wattle is what I believe it is called. Perfect for -50 degree temps.

Forty years ago the US was teaching the H’mong people, barely out of the jungles of South Asia, what a cook stove and a commode was for.

***I’ll expect to see new ‘citizens’ cooking meals on little gas stoves on the floor of commuter flights soon,***

I remember, years ago, when a pilgrim from Mecca crashed an airplane. He decided to warm water for tea, with his pressurized tea pot while in flight.

This is common in Mexico if you travel.

Apparently the plumbing is so bad that it is expected that you not flush toilet paper. Lest you clog the pipes.

So that wastebasket in Mexican restaurant bathrooms? For toilet paper.

Imagine how fun that must be at the end of the night, collecting the garbage in a Mexican restaurant.

Truly a job that no American will do.

Here even with the baskets, they still throw the paper on the floor.

I’ve been in a small city in Mexico for 6 months and have 6 more months to go. Words can’t describe what a filthy insane asylum this is.

Jobs. SD has low unemployment. Immigrants are welcome, illegals not so much.

South Dakota is a great state.

They ignore the sign. You would be surprised how many are actually illiterate in their own language, so cannot read signs.

Well, the article did say that Lutheran Social Services had placed the immigrants, but it’s possible government programs are involved.

For some reason the Black Caucus wants us to import these poor people and place them in very cold climates. Why would they want them to live in Minnesota, Maine and South Dakota?

More important - why are we importing illiterate welfare recipients?

In Mexico there are signs everywhere....no paper in toilets. I guess their sewer system can’t handle it.
