Administration to cancel Hellfire and Tomahawk missile programs
American Thinker ^ | 3/25/2014 | Lee DeCovnick

Let’s start with a simple question. What happens when a soldier runs out of ammunition during a firefight? First, he either retreats, or he quickly becomes killed, wounded or captured. Second, his tactical position converts from active to indefensible which imperils the strategic array of the entire battlefield.

What do you call a submarine that runs out of torpedoes? Missing in action. That’s an old Navy joke that dates back to WWII. However the fundamental military concept remains true: without the ability to attack your enemy and inflict serious damage, you’re unable to influence any subsequent events on the battlefield. The military has a term for any ship or combat unit that cannot defend itself, “Useless as tits on boar.”

So, IIRC, Hellfires are what the Reaper carries. Drone killings will diminish drastically.

For the Tomahawks, I’m guessing overseas sales won’t suffer so I can envision sometime in the future when one (or many more) come flying in at us.

Somebody here please tell me Obama isn’t really a Muslim hell bent on destroying us. I dare you.

Is the Obama admin cancelling these systems, or is the DoD saying they are no longer needed and want funds and resources deployed on other military systems?

The military probably wants to transfer the funds so they can meet their Muslim Outreach goal like NASA.

mbarker12474:" Is the Obama admin cancelling these systems, or is the DoD saying they are no longer needed

When you look at the unreasonable demands this administration is putting on successful defensive weaponry
and then you see the defensive weaponry that is being eliminated by this administration for the defense of Israel ,
then you can safely conclude that this administration seeks our own demise, and that of our best "ally " !
Elimination of offensive and defensive weaponry leads only to weakness , and capitualtion, and eventually ,.. SUBMISSION !!

Obummer doesn’t write the checks to pay for this stuff. Congress does.

Wasn’t the B-1 bomber known as “the plane that couldn’t be shot down” because its parts were made in so many different Congressional districts?

I suspect the Tomahawk and Hellfire will be around long after Indonesia’s favorite son retires to the golf course.

The report is a half-truth, because it omits how the Tomahawk has a proposed successor, the Cruise Missile XR (Extended Range). The Russians are marketing increasingly effective anti-cruise missile systems, and the Tomahawk was not suitable for striking moving targets. The new Cruise Missile XR (Extended Range) offers stealth capabilities, the ability to strike moving targets, and other improvements challenging the Russian anti-cruise missile systems.

The Hellfire has long been under consideraton for phasing out as proposed replacements were developed and scheduled for appropriations that were subsequently canceled for budgetary reasons. The latest proposed replacement for the Hellfire is the Joint Air to Ground Missile (JAGM).

The retirement of the Tomahawk and Hellfire missiles after long service is to be expected sooner or later, so the real question is whether or not the Obama Administration is going to proved adequate and timely funding for effective replacement missile systems?

Truthfully, both Tomahawk and Hellfire need to be generationally upgraded. Tomahawk especially needs to be replaced in two directions: high grade and high quantity but lower grade.

The upgrade to the missile is obvious, but the high quantity needs some explanation. In military history, you have to maintain a balance between quality and quantity. If you are using a $1.5 million missile to take out several terrorist goat herders in mud huts, you are wasting money. They would be just as exterminated if you used an “off the shelf”, low tech missile that costs about as much as a new economy car, say $50,000 a pop. And you can buy 30 of them for the same price as one of the high tech wonders.

Or 300 of them for the price of 10 high tech missiles.

Or 3,000 of them for 100. You see where this is going?

If you can field a giant armada of cheap low tech weapons, you can flatten an enemy very quickly, and there is not much they can do about it. They don’t even need a high tech launch platform. Just a cargo ship with some modifications.

These two weapons systems are perhaps the most successful arms of American Foreign Diplomacy at its best. Diplomacy through strength and action.

The Hellfires, through retribution on Muslim Terrorists via Predators and Reapers, and with Tomahawks providing surgical precision (even the kind that Clinton used on the baby milk factories and the desert tents when he launched hundreds in an attempt to make the news cycle switch from BJs to terrorists).

Reasonably, there is no conclusion BUT treason on Obama’s part for this.

True enough. What worries me is that if and when the current admin will have a replacement ready when these two are dumped? Kinda like our human space flight program when we shut the shuttle down. Oh, wait. We don’t have a current human space flight program. Ooopsee! Good thing are buddies in Russia are there to “let” fly us back and forth to the ISS huh?

The posterior orifice, POS, large POS, must go. Period.

LOL! Who ever leaves weapons and ammo laying around if they can avoid it? I sure as hell wouldn’t. Never can have enough ammo and toilet paper.

TRICARE LIFE Retired Military over 65 just received this noticed 2 weeks ago, takes effect 4/14/2014, why they sent a prelim with out the drug list is WASTEFUL spending in itself!

We learned last week that the new DOD budget is forcing us to use either Base or Express Scripts MANDATED Tricare Life. starts next month. 4/14/14, still have not got the formulary, waste to do 2 send outs. Express Scripts is a sorry excuse of a provider. You never know if your order is right, what generic, what manufacture, or what country. China is their favorite. All thrown up on your porch for the local thieves and meth makers to steal. And they do not keep track of your drug side effect list.

YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PHARMACY THANKS TO NEW DOD BUDGET!

I did not include the cover letter. Which hubby has since pitched into the trash.

This is a Prelim letter, we don’t even know at this time which drugs are going to be on the list. Waste of money to not send out the full thing.

1 Transfer your medication from a retail pharmacy to save , convenient Tricare Home Delivery and pay less out of pocket! A typical cost for a 90 day retail supply is $51 but only $13 for Home Delivery.

2 Ask your doctor about using a low cost generic that is not among the medications included in the Pilot Generics can still be filled at retail for $5

3 Transfer maintenance medications under the Pilot from retail pharmacy to a military pharmacy. Call your local military pharmacy to see if they have you medication

4 Continue to get you selected maintenance medications at a retail and pay 100% of the cost of the medication starting with your third refill.

If you refill your selected maintenance medication’s at a retail pharmacy after March 14, 2014 you’ll get letters from the Tricare Pharmacy contractor Express Scripts, Inc about switching to Home Delivery. Remember, starting with your third fill you will be responsible for 100% of the cost of the medications if you chose to continue to obtain them at a retail pharmacy.

If you have other health insurance with a prescription benefit, you do not fall under the Pilot. There will also be a process to obtain waivers on a case by case basis, due to personal need or hardship, emergency or other special circumstaces-0 such as living in a nursing home. After participating in the Pilot for 1 year you may opt out.
