A workbook used by students at Grant Middle School that has generated controversy among gun-rights supporters has no political agenda and won't be removed from the classroom, Springfield interim Superintendent Bob Hill said Monday.
Since the controversy surfaced online last week, Hill said, he's received a handful of calls and more than a dozen emails.
Gun-rights supporters claim students at Grant Middle School, 1800 W. Monroe St., are being taught that the Second Amendment permits only strictly regulated, registered gun ownership.
The concerns are based on a picture posted by a Grant parent on the Illinois Gun Owners Rights Facebook page about a workbook his child brought home. The posting was picked up by a number of websites and shared thousands of times online.

It’s a useful example of how liberals can only defend their position through lies. If they were meritorious, such agendas wouldn’t need to be propped up by massive mendacity.
All students should be taught to prefer primary sources of information, not to settle for some clown at the blackboard doing their thinking for them. It’s telling that the school book in question doesn’t print the 2nd Amendment in its original form.
BULLSTALIN
The default position parents take is sending their kids to public school, and that homeschooling is an aberration. This idea needs to change. I’m literally sickened by the idea of sending my kids to be tutored all day by socialists, humanists, perverts, and imbeciles. There are a smattering of decent people, but few who have a thoroughly Christian worldview. So why do Christians thoughtlessly send their kids to public schools? Because their trained to do it.
Heres the contact information if you would like to call the school and offer them in polite, non-profane terms your thoughts on what they are teaching.

First I heard of this was here at FR in spite of living just north of Springfield. Shared it on FB and Oathkeepers and with some local conservative figures and/or media. Starting to get some traction even the local Pravda (State Journal-Register) mentioned it today in passing. According tp my local contacts Bob Hill has received more than ‘a few’ calls and emails. But he’s a lying POS jerk anyway and isn’t about to own up to the truth.
Listen to Superintendent Explain Why He Refuses to Remove Workbook With Outrageous Definition of Second Amendment

The superintendent of Springfield Public Schools told 970 WMAY on Monday that he doesnt plan to remove a workbook that contains an outrageous definition of the Second Amendment, despite the outrage it has generated among parents.
The workbook, currently being utilized by seventh-graders at Grant Middle School in Springfield, Ill., teaches students that the Second Amendment gives people the right to certain weapons, providing that they register them and they have not been in prison.
Superintendent Bob Hill told 970 WMAY that the workbook is not the only resource that provides a definition of the Second Amendment and argued that the interpretation found in the material teaches students what happens with the right to bear arms in the context of 2014.
Post modernist existentialism. Why do I have to live in the same country as this guy?
Is that Diane Fienstein?

Just shut up citizen and pay your Liberty Tax.
What I’m doing here is maintaining the academic freedom of the teacher, Hill said. For me, it’s an issue bigger than this one issue. It’s about the fact that teachers in the district went to college, got a degree and a license to teach.”
So, I guess he is reinterpreting the first amendment as well as the second. “Academic freedom” is not a first amendment right, nor is that right granted through a college education, degree, or a license to teach.
I saw another story on this that notes that the school dropped the “U.S.” from its original name. The U.S. part, of course, is the name of General Ulysses Grant and the school dropped the name to just “Grant” to avoid discussing General Grant. http://www.publiusforum.com/2014/03/24/illinois-school-gun-rights-government-allows/
