Some statements and arguments are so asinine that you'd have to be an academic or a leftist to take them seriously. Take the accusation that Republicans and conservatives are conducting a war on women. Does that mean they're waging war on their daughters, wives, mothers and other female members of their families? If so, do they abide by the Geneva Conventions' bans on torture, or do they engage in enhanced interrogation and intimidation methods, such as waterboarding, with female family members? You might say that leftists don't mean actual war. Then why do they say it?
What would you think of a white conservative mayor's trying to defund charter schools where blacks are succeeding? While most of New York's black students could not pass a citywide math proficiency exam, there was a charter school where 82 percent of its students passed. New York's left-wing mayor, Bill de Blasio, is trying to shut it down, and so far, I've heard not one peep from the Big Apple's civil rights hustlers, including Al Sharpton and Charles Rangel. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder recently stated that we must revisit the laws that ban convicted felons from voting. Why? According to a recent study by two professors, Marc Meredith of the University of Pennsylvania and Michael Morse of Stanford, published in The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science (http://tinyurl.com/pgolu8x), three-fourths of America's convicted murderers, rapists and thieves are Democrats. Many states restrict felons from voting; however, there's a movement afoot to eliminate any restriction on their voting. If successful, we might see Democratic candidates campaigning in prisons, seeking the support of some of America's worst people.
Decades ago, I warned my fellow Americans that the tobacco zealots' agenda was not about the supposed health hazards of secondhand smoke. It was really about control. The fact that tobacco smoke is unpleasant gained them the support of most Americans. By the way, to reach its secondhand smoke conclusions, the Environmental Protection Agency employed statistical techniques that were grossly dishonest. Some years ago, I had the opportunity to ask a Food and Drug Administration official whether his agency would accept pharmaceutical companies using similar statistical techniques in their drug approval procedures. He just looked at me.
Seeing as Americans are timid and compliant, why not dictate other aspects of our lives -- such as the size of soda we may buy, as former Mayor Michael Bloomberg tried in New York? Former U.S. Department of Agriculture spokesman John Webster said: "Right now, this anti-obesity campaign is in its infancy. ... We want to turn people around and give them assistance in eating nutritious foods." The city of Calabasas, Calif., adopted an ordinance that bans smoking in virtually all outdoor areas. The stated justification is not the desire to fight against secondhand smoke but the desire to protect children from bad influences -- seeing adults smoking. Most Americans don't know that years ago, if someone tried to stop a person from smoking on a beach or sidewalk or buying a 16-ounce cup of soda or tried to throw away his kid's homemade lunch, it might have led to a severe beating. On a very famous radio talk show, I suggested to an anti-obesity busybody who was calling for laws to restrict restaurants' serving sizes that he not be a coward and rely on government. He should just come up, I told him, and take the food he thought I shouldn't have from my plate.
The late H.L. Mencken's description of health care professionals in his day is just as appropriate today: "A certain section of medical opinion, in late years, has succumbed to the messianic delusion. Its spokesmen are not content to deal with the patients who come to them for advice; they conceive it to be their duty to force their advice upon everyone, including especially those who don't want it. That duty is purely imaginary. It is born of vanity, not of public spirit. The impulse behind it is not altruism, but a mere yearning to run things."

The FACT?...”unpleasant”? Au contraire!
Is that like a consensus of scientists proffering a hypothesis that concludes in favor of their pre-suppostions? (ref: Climate Change...and see my tag!)
I quit cigarettes in 1984 and will never go back. But the smell of cigar smoke, the sniff of 2nd-hand Black Watch pipe-tobocco reminds me of my sainted grandfather (who died of esophogeal cancer) and takes me back to the less complicated days of my youth. Even as I leave my office complex, I “sinfully” enjoy the secondhand smoke I encounter.
I don’t begrudge the smoker his desire and will thank him/her silently for giving me memories of my grampa.
I stopped believing the left to be capable of logic and reason when they declared a man working for his livelihood to be “wage slavery” and things like food and medical care to be a right.
If the goal is to take control, then there's a great deal of reason and logic in such declarations.
IOW, there's method in their madness.

Tobacco smoke, by itself, isn’t unpleasant. It’s when chemicals and perfumes are added to it that it becomes repulsive.
I know people who roll their own, and the smoke isn’t offensive at all. But light up a store-bought cigarette, a cheap cigar, or heavily perfumed pipe tobacco, that’s when I start to choke.
If there it truth to that statement about about the attitude of most Americans, it is because of commercial cigarettes and the hundreds of chemicals and additives that can legally be mixed in with the natural tobacco that alter the flavor, increase the addictive potential, and reduce the fire potential from smoldering butts.
If you want to smoke, do so, but stay away from chemical-laden “fire-safe” commercial cigarettes. Smoke only natural tobacco, as God created it.

They may not overtly worship Satan, fall on their knees and chant his name, but virtually all their legislative acts and use of power pay homage, offer him sacrifices or attack and act to deny Judeo-Christian thought and devotion.
They lie about their actions and purpose as easily as they do about their political enemies (not opponents). Calumny is as natural as breathing.
They promote coveting other's property and lifestyle and other divisive, rather than unifying, philosophies and policy, then use the feelings that result to justify stealing from the haves.
Their most blatant form of Satanic worship and devotion is their tireless support for all forms of abortion at any and all stages of pregnancy.
And, like their god, the prince of the world, they seek to take as many down, the bad and the good, as possible before their eventual fall.

While that may make sense to the looters, it doesn’t belong in the realm of reason and logic. There are no contradictions in logic and reason, no use of force, no calls for victims, etc.
A more appropriate title for such thinking would be “Short term gain, long term pain”. While the looters might get a temporary benefit in the way of more power, eventually reality will step in and set things right, usually after years of painful lessons.
Rand Paul is all for giving felons the right to vote too.

I quit cigarettes in 1973 after being a THREE pack a day man. I have not smelled pipe or cigar smoke in a long time but I probably still would find it pleasant. Cigarette smoke, on the other hand, or stale ashtrays, a car that has been smoked in, all those smell worse than an outhouse to me, I cannot stand the smell of cigarettes after forty years without them. To my nose there is no comparison between pipe or cigar smoke and cigarette smoke.
I love the smell or aroma of pipe tobacco, not so cigar smoke or cigarette smoke. Cigar smoke stinks imho and cigarette smoke bothers me. That doesn’t mean I tell smokers to stop smoking in front of me. I just stay away from them
Whether the food is pact with nutrition or not is sort of besides the point. What counts is the amount of the food you eat.

I think you may have “hit” on something for us “quitters”. The stale smoke smell in a car, in a house, in someone’s hair...really not something that “attracts” folks.
I admit, I’ll complain to the rental car company of my car smells - even in the smallest way - of cigarette smoke. If a hotal room smells of stale smoke, I’ll ask to be moved.
It is the ^stale^ residue of smoking that really sets me back.
True to a point. Beyond that, you can't eat enough grass to feed yourself.
