COMMON CORE: Sen. Lamar Alexander’s continued attempts to change the subject

Under increasing pressure because of his support for the Common Core standards, Sen. Lamar Alexander said Saturday, “Let’s don’t talk about Common Core.”

“Let’s talk about standards,” Alexander continued. “Education is not just a problem in West Tennessee. It’s a problem in Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee.”

As the Jackson Sun reported, Alexander said, “I’d like to see a discussion about standards with no national school board,” continuing to cite an issue called the “national school board” that has never been put forward on either the federal or state level.

Alexander is being challenged by conservative state Rep. Joe Carr (R) for his U.S. Senate seat.

“Unfortunately for Senator Alexander, our campaign and grassroots conservatives throughout Tennessee are going to continue to talk about – and continue to fight against – Common Core,” said Carr in a press release. “His increasingly nonsensical attempts to change the subject won’t work and won’t fool a single voter.”

“Just like Obamacare, Common Core is Washington telling us what to do, and Senator Alexander is once again saying one thing and doing something else,” Carr added. “We want local control over how we teach our children, not uniform standards dictated by education bureaucrats.”

I just watched some youtube videos of kids trying to explain how common core math problems are solved. This adorable little girl is being filmed by her (I assume) mother. She starts with a near empty white board and by the time she adds up 3 numbers the board is filled with boxes and squares and she STILL gets the answer wrong. Then, mom says “do it the way I tought you with the stack method.” In 30 seconds the girl has the right answer. When mom asks why the difference the little girl explains, “that way is to confusing and this way is more organized.” That girls is blessed she has a mom that is so active in her education and life because so many kids are going to be brainwashed in to learning this stupid concept.

I run a machine shop. If my guys were using these bizaar methods trying to figure out a trig function or even simple addition or multiplication there would be a come to Jesus meeting real quick. If I’m building a $10,000 aircraft part and they’ve been told “close enough to be correct now can I get a gold star” that part is scrap. We put people on the moon with slide rulers. I can’t imagine the USA will ever go back in to space with this new generation of kids being brainwashed with this crap.

I was helping my friend’s son with fractions last week. They don’t make kids memorize the times tables anymore so that was difficult enough, but the method they used to teach fractions was just crazy.

I learned fractions over thirty years ago with time-tested methods and can still do them. These kids in thirty years will forget all about these drawing methods and they’ll be lost.
