Obama rallies European allies against 'darker forces of the past'

President Obama looked to rally European allies to intensify the international isolation of Russia in a sweeping speech Wednesday afternoon, casting the crisis in Crimea as the latest iteration of a decades-old battle with the "darker forces of the past."

"I come here today to insist that we must never take for granted the progress that has been won here in Europe and advanced around the world, because the contest of ideas continues for your generation," Obama told an audience at the Palais Des Beaux Arts in Belgium.

Obama declared that Russia's leadership was "challenging truths that only a few weeks ago seemed self-evident," undermining international agreements to ensure "that majorities cannot simply suppress minorities and big countries cannot simply bully the small."

"That's why Russia's violation of international law, its assault on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, must be met with condemnation, not because we're trying to keep Russia down, but because the principles that have meant so much to Europe and the world must be lifted up," Obama said.

Obama's speech was intended as a rallying cry to European nations skittish from the Russian incursion into Ukraine and reluctant to impose penalties on Moscow that could carry severe domestic economic repercussions.

He could actually do something meaningful by restoring the missile defenses to Poland and the Czech Republic which he cancelled because it was a George W. Bush initiative.

He could, but he won't. Because it is so much easier just to make a speech.

Zero is never going to learn you can’t solve problems by just giving speeches. We’ve declined so far in so little time.

The Dark forces are winning—and will overcome the fancy talk. Europe will clap—pat him on the back and do what they want.

“Dark Forces of the Past”? Like the country we fought TWO World Wars against?

Too bad grandiose rhetoric is not the equivalent of effective leadership and sound policy. Essentially Obama remains a verbose community organizer on a bigger stage. Obama is no more sophisticated than Al Sharpton and the world knows it.

I listened to as much of his address as I could stomach. He sounded tense, frustrated..reminded me of one of those “Real Housewives” Reality stars when they’re pitching something, but ready to come unhinged if they don’t get their way.

“These Manolo Blahnik are so two seasons ago. If I don’t get these Christian Louboutins for the party, we will become the laughing stock of our social circle.”

One suggestion to the jug-eared moron... you might want to continually check who’s lining up behind you, as I doubt there will be many willing to stand behind a gutless, clueless, self-aggrandizing pansy.

The fool confuses his speeches (which he can write better than his speechwriters, according to himself) with reality.

I saw Obama saying Kosovo left Serbia by democratic vote.

Funny Obama didn’t mention the forced removal of the Serbs and bombing of Belgrade first.

Yeah, he said that the Kosovars held a democratic referendum and chose to leave Serbia.

He just failed to mention the forced removal of the Serbs first.

He won't because it would mean he was wrong. Obama will never admit to being WRONG about anything. He will admit his administration has made mistakes, but he will never admit to personally being wrong. He is a true narcicist. Heck, he couldn't even give Romney credit for being right about Russia, because someone might insinuate that Obama was therefore wrong.

This has been a wonderful day for the Dark Forces. Vladimir Putin’s Russia, an oil-based economy, had a windfall today as oil futures prices increased by more than a dollar a barrel. That means lots of extra money for extra tanks and missiles soon to be aimed at Moldova.

Meanwhile, the Forces of Light in Europe and America will soon see their gasoline prices rise, producing negative economic affects.

The problem is not only that Barack Obama is incapable of standing up to Vladimir Putin, he’s also incapable of standing up to pressure from his own country’s environmental lobby to cease drilling. Unless Americans vote the Democrats out of office once and for all, the only way Americans will ever be able to drill for as much oil as we need is if Vladimir Putin includes Alaska on his list of areas to be conquered.
