Putin’s Approval Rating Rises to 80% – Poll

Russian President Vladimir Putin's approval rating has reached 80 percent, with a majority of Russians saying the country is heading in the right direction, an independent pollster said Wednesday.

A poll by the Levada Center said public support for the Russian leader rose by 8 percent since Putin delivered an address to parliament on Crimea before the predominantly Russian-speaking region rejoined Russia last week.

Levada said Putin's approval rating peaked at 85 percent in spring 2008, when Dmitry Medvedev, now prime minister, succeeded him as president.

Another poll by Levada last week said a majority of Russians believe their country is a great power and an important player in the international arena.

Some 63 percent of respondents said modern Russia has regained the status of a superpower, the highest level in the history of the poll, conducted by the Levada Center since the 2000s.

Putin was named International Person of the Year by Britain's The Times newspaper in December, for succeeding in his ambition of reestablishing Moscow as a critical player in solving international problems.

According to the poll released Wednesday, only 18 percent of respondents did not approve of Putin's performance as president.

The survey was conducted March 21-24 among 1,600 respondents across 130 cities in Russia. The statistical margin of error was 3.4 percent.

Congratulations comrade, trclaf, on your appointment as First Sergeant in the FreeRepublic Platoon of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade! Your duties will include licking comrade Putin's boots, so you will need to move you mouth about 3 feet south of where it is at the moment.

Clearly, as disgusting as his slobbering is to the rest of us, they should. But as everyone knows "Butch" Putin [AKA The Shirtless Wonder®] is an exhibitionist, and tcrlaf is not ashamed of his public displays of affection for Vlad The Inhaler.

Hitler thought the West was decadent too. Putin does too. Hitler never stole as much for his personal benefit as Putin has from the Russians. He has $75 billion. No biggie to his fans. He's still just an ascetic nationalist trying to help restore the much put upon Russian people, whom he's been robbing for years.

By the way, when Reagan, Thatcher, Poland's Solidarity, and the Pope were fighting Putin's communist bosses, Putin was serving in the KGB. When the Berlin Wall fell, Putin had 14 years of service with the KGB. His dad too worked in the Soviet's secret police. He's a swell guy, though. So what if he's personally immoral and corrupt, right? Let's praise him for his cruelty to Ukraine where he can prove he's a tough guy.

Who said I was a supporter of Putin? I just give him a tip-of-the-hat, as a leader who both lives in the world of political and historical reality, and works to ensure his country’s strength and survival.

Something we don’t have in America, which is decaying economically, militarily, culturally, and morally. Descending into a sewer of dope, depravity and homosex. And ultimately may no longer be an entity worth preserving or fighting for, as it continues down its path of embracing evil.

We can understand Putin’s motives—Obama is an enigma. He seems to want America to be humbled and forced to become weak and helpless (cutting military etc..._) Why? This clear difference is why some praise an autocrat like Putin. It is no wonder that Russians like Putin—some still like Stalin after all.

Does life and blood count?

It counts as to the magnitude of his crimes, but it’s not a way to judge personal self enrichment.
