Grossman passes kidney stone during Dem gubernatorial debate (you can't make this stuff up)

There were more than a few pained expressions worn by gubernatorial candidates during Tuesday night’s forum dedicated to issues affecting Massachusetts’s LGBTQ community, mostly after Scott Lively, an anti-gay candidate running to “advance a biblical world view,” responded to questions.

But state Treasurer Steve Grossman, who is a Democrat from Newton, was actually in physical pain, said campaign spokesman Chandra Allard. Grossman was in the throes of passing a kidney stone, something often compared to the pain of childbirth, during the 90-minute debate, she said.

The forum was held by MassEquality and WGBH at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square and included eight gubernatorial candidates -- the five Democrats and three independents, all of whom showed their support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community except for Lively.

Grossman’s pain-level was a 10 on a scale of 1-to-10, Allard said, and yet he fervently answered questions on everything from transgender rights and mandatory sex education to issues facing youth and aging members of the LGBTQ community.

Grossman has suffered chronic kidney stones, getting them on and off for the last 30 years, said Allard. He woke up in pain at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, but she said he insisted on continuing with the day, which included attending GetKonnected’s Diversity Game Changer Awards ceremony after the forum ended.

Word of Grossman’s stone -- which has inspired a parody Twitter account -- spread via the micro-blogging website, as did the news that he finally passed the stone, sometime during the awards ceremony.

“I’m grateful that I made it out, but I know some of my fellow stones remain confined. We must #FreeTheStones! #mapoli,”@grossmansstone tweeted Wednesday morning.

After he passed the stone, Grossman appeared to be ready for some rough gay sex.

Grossman’s pain-level was a 10 on a scale of 1-to-10-—passing a stone is said to be as painful as childbirth-—and yet Grossman fervently answered questions on everything from transgender rights and mandatory sex education to issues facing youth and aging members of the LGBTQ community.

After he finished, Grossman help up the stone and said, “See, I passed.”

Well, he couldn’t say it was a gerbil. That would get the animal rights activists up in arms.

You can take Grossman out of the white house but you can’t take the gross out of Grossman.

I sincerely doubt the veracity of his story.

I can tell you that you are right. From the article:

Grossman’s pain-level was a 10 on a scale of 1-to-10, Allard said, and yet he fervently answered questions on everything from transgender rights and mandatory sex education to issues facing youth and aging members of the LGBTQ community.

His pain level was maybe 4 on a 1-to-10 scale. From personal experience:

-- on a 1-to-8 scale, you can think of nothing else, certainly not talking about anything irrelevant to alleviating the piercing gut hurt. You may be able to keep a Percocet tablet down long enough to have it cut in.

-- On a 1-to-9 scale, you will be lying on the floor, curled up and undergoing dry heaves of nausea, writhing to try to escape the agony. The only way a narcotic will get into you is by an intravenous drip.

-- on a 1-to-10 scale, you will pass out from the pain intensity, and the paramedics will be loading you on a gurney into the ambulance.

That's factual. This Grossman is a liar, without a doubt, fawning on the misplaced compassion of his admirers.

My dad was not prone to complain and had a high pain threshold, he once thought a fractured rib was just a chest cold. Passing a kidney stone dropped him to his knees, he thought he was dying. This guy is a liar.

Strongly agree as I was a recent nine thanks to a 10 mm stone now stuck in my ureter. I’ve passed well in excess of 20 stones but only two have knocked me down for the count. If he was able to function as indicated, he had a very minor attack.

You’d think one of his gay friends could have helped speed up the passing.
Maybe they did.

From my real experience....... the passage takes a while and is extremely painful

I have heard the pain being compared to giving birth.

After the kidney boulder I passed several years ago, I would concur.

==

Several years ago, someone posted in an FR thread that drinking lemonade frequently would help desolve the calcium before stones could form.

After I read that, I have been drinking about 12-oz of lemonade two days per week. I have not had any k-s pain since then.

Two days per week: To a glass of 12-oz of water, I add 2 caps of bottled lemon juice concentrate, and about 4 tsp of sugar.

It seems to work for me.

Some people will do anything for attention. If he was in pain at a level 10, he would not have been on that stage standing. No way no how. And that is all anyone needs to know about the man. He and his spokescritter are liars. And his name doesn’t help.

Liz, I was trying to pass a kidney stone once while I was in the waiting to see an Augusta, GA. retina specialist. When one of the assistants saw I was in pain and asked the reason for it, she told me there was another patient there going through the same thing!

It took a long time to get an appointment with that doctor and if you cancelled it he got really mad. I guess the other patient did not want to risk his wrath any more than I did.

Mine was a small stone and I was rid of it within the next 48 hours.

I’ve done the passing out from the pain. You simply cannot function when it gets to that level.

He might have had some pain but certainly not close to anything severe.
