Virginia, considered a swing state, is swinging blue for U.S. Sen. Mark Warner in his reelection drive this year and for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if she runs for the White House in 2016, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Sen. Warner tops former White House aide Ed Gillespie, a possible Republican challenger, 46 - 31 percent, with 6 percent for Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.

Virginia voters say 49 - 36 percent that Warner deserves reelection. They approve 55 - 33 percent of the job he is doing and have a 49 - 30 percent favorable opinion of him. For the other candidates, 64 percent don't know enough about Gillespie to form an opinion and 80 percent don't know enough about Sarvis.

Secretary Clinton squeaks by New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie 45 - 41 percent and tops other possible Republican contenders in the 2016 presidential race: 47 - 39 percent over former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush; 48 - 42 percent over U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky; 49 - 41 over former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Looking at the splits PIAPS actually loses to the GOP potential among so called Independents, Romney won that group in 2012, but with the changing demographics so beats them. I did not realize that ego maniac Sarvis is running for office again as the Losertarian. He helped get McAuliffe into the Governor's Mansion in 2013.

48 - 42 percent over U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

I hope we can get a conservative elected, but blocking the Democrats from another third term is critical. Electability is very important.

Its a same what has happened to the Old Dominion. But this the result of the spread of the Washington D.C. cancer into Virginia and Maryland.

I see where the Democrat funding machine got another Libertarian in this race to siphon votes from the Republican. This will be a tactic we will see many times over in the General Election Ballots in November. It is called divide and conquer.

Parasite infestation. Is there a competent exterminator?

It's a pity, because Virginia is actually one of the most conservative states....except for the DC-Metro and urban Richmond areas. At the state level they have a house of delegates that is over 2/3 Republican and many counties are dominated by Republicans. Unfortunately statewide races, (governor, senators, president) the population centers can out man the other 90% of the state.

Given her notoriety she should be more than 6 points ahead of the lesser known Rand. If she’s not cracking the 50% mark she’s vulnerable.

the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll

Just shows how they are trying to cover their tracks now. Right, independent. Sure.

Triangulation—1)Democrats move in; 2)third party runs to dilute the anti-Dem vote and 3) enough voter fraud as needed in case 1 and 2 don’t do the job.

I’m actually surprised the lead for Hillary has actually declined somewhat. The lead for Warner shouldn’t stun anyone from Virginia. For some reason, the people here seem to think Warner was sent here by God Himself. It doesn’t matter that he votes 97% along with Obama and is one of Zer0’s most adoring acolytes in the Senate, the only thing that will ever defeat him is a sudden, debilitating health event or death itself. He’s not going anywhere for a long, long time... doesn’t matter who the Repubs put up against him.

Not quite there yet, but heading there fast. We're getting overwhelmed by the infestation in the north.

My old VA is Blue and is getting to non-Swing State status. That makes me sad.

As I think about it, I was born in RI (blue). Lived and practiced law in VA (blue). Retired and live in CA ( mega-blue). I need to stop moving and save conservatism.

Warner could curb-stomp newborn kittens live on prime-time TV and Virginia voters would still elect him in a landslide. He's pretty much unbeatable in this state.

Like so many states before it, Virginia is fast becoming permanently conquered territory.

My heart breaks for my state, but I’m not surprised. Yankee license plates are all over the place. They’ve swarmed down here and they’ve brought their politics with them.

Here in central VA, we’re still red, but for how long?

I call BS; look at the demographics at the end of the poll; 24% republicans surveyed, so the skew is heavy to get the outcome desired.

In today's Day By Day comic, by Chris Muir, he has come up with a very witty way of describing 'blue' states: as "northern Democrat slave states".

This is a very catchy phrase, and should be adopted by conservatives when referring to blue states. In a purple state, like Virginia, that is trending blue, the Democrats can best be described as they were in "Bleeding Kansas", as "border ruffians".

And here is the flag of the "northern Democrat slave states". Properly, it should have the names of these states on the flag as well.
