I always cringe when the subject of autism comes up at Freerepublic.
Many here just think everything is political ...but sometimes it just isn’t.
We have a 12 year old son with high functioning autism. Yes, he’s normal in many respects, but he will likely always live with us and will always need our help.
I may not always be here ....then what?
We don’t get a single penny of assistance from the government, family, or anyone. I have gone back to school to get a masters so I can get a better job and work harder until I drop where I stand so that we will have money, not just for his treatments, but for HIM — to buy him a home of his own, to leave him something when we’re gone. He will never get the chance to fully use his intelligence and abilities, because, well, with autism, the wiring is in place, but it’s all — just sort of disconnected.
I’m sick of the stats, and the conjecture. I just want someone to figure out what has caused this for so many families to have to endure.
My son is a wonderful, healthy handsome strapping young man with autism. He will never probably really have it in him to take care of a wife, a family a home, or his country.
God only knows what/who he could have been ...God only knows how many young men we have lost to this. It’s time to stop the judgmental political crap and solve the problem!
I don’t imagine I will get involved in anymore discussions about autism on FR.
So very true ... and there is such a thing as an objective reality that exists outside of money, politics and "agenda". But apparently some Freepers have "lived" on here so long, that they've forgotten that.
That’s the hard part. The pressure of not knowing the future exactly, but knowing that no one will love and support him like you do. May God bless you.
