No doctor can give you a stress test like an earth quake can.

Odd, I felt nothing..... and I am in Afghanistan!

That's because you're still in shock from the last mortar shell...

Oh, wow!!! What a great description!! Plywood exterior flapping like birds' wings! My friend (she passed away in 2000) was just a kid, too, and had the same attitude that it was "kinda fun" for her and her little brother, while her parents were resigned to just throwing their hands up and letting the kids enjoy what the parents, who were home at the time (teachers) were sure would be their last minutes!

So the earthquake was the force making the pickup truck go down the driveway, I presume. Just, wow! And I thought the Northridge quake was bad!

For the record, I live less than half a mile away from the Chino Hills EQ epicenter, and that was supposedly a 5.8 or somesuch, though it didn't feel like it at all, it just felt like a solid WHACK and that was it, no big deal, whereas the one last night, the 5.1 in La Habra/Brea, felt A LOT BIGGER and lasted a whole lot longer. Still pretty mild as far as earthquakes go, however.

Thanks for sharing that story! I'll bet it takes a hell of an earthquake to scare you now! {^)

Rumor has it that entire place will slide into the ocean some day.

Now if that "rumor" was that the Central Coast slid so far north that Monterey wine country was LITERALLY on a par with Napa, that would at least make some sense.

But "sliding into the ocean"? *sigh* Stupid and old, based on a completely bastardized interpretation of plate tectonics and worthy of the canned laughter I always think of when I hear it, and I've been hearing it for well over 45 years.

Yeah, I don't know why it is only east. Maybe fewer people and buildings in 1811 to assess damage?

Anyway, here's a less detailed one showing damage from a New Madrid magnitude 6 from 1895 compared to the California 6.7 in 1994.

If that thing or a larger one hit today, it would cause incredible damage.
