But the weather is better here and its a long way to go to Pakistan.
The search should have been near the eyewitness account of an airliner coming straight down off Vietnam. Debris was spotted 22 meters long, which doesn’t sound like a bad fit.
Whoa-if that is how they overload freight containers on a ship, it is a wonder anything in one makes it to the destination-there aren’t any tiedown straps or chains that I can see-it looks like an oceangoing disaster...
The plane was never in the s Indian Ocean.

I haven’t heard that, but I don’t watch stuff about it all that much-didn’t anyone consider an eyewitness report credible? If they weren’t saying an alien mother ship scooped it up, or some other nonsense, why doesn’t someone go look there?

..... In my uneducated and perhaps naive opinion .... It’s entirely possible that all of the debris that is being sighted that they are all excited about .... may just turn out to be accumulated trash and debris that has either fallen or been dumped overboard over the years in open waters .... then caught caught up and gathered by ocean currents .... and nothing more than that.
Or, more likely:

I’m ‘walking the fence’ on this one. I lost interest in the wake of all the hyperbole the first week from the Malaysians. I regained my interest when they piqued the geek in me with their synopses about the ‘data’ (that they’ve never released) and triggered a bit of deja vu (ala July 17, 1996 & the consequent ‘explanations’).
At least no searchers have been lost or hurt in this charade...yet.
But it does fit a criminal mind that can murder 238 people, make his getaway without being seen, dump the evidence of his crime in a place where it may never be found.
The flaw in this analysis is the first flawed step: The two things are not equal to each other. The two flights are not known to be equal to each other in altitude, therefore their comparison to the other thing (the Inmarsat Satellite) is not known to be equivalent.
The Inmarsat satellite orbit at about 22,000 miles. A 10K-20K difference in flight altitude is irrelevant to the characteristics of the radio signals received by the satellite.
An initial search area the size of the State of Alaska would take into account speed differences.
Why??? It didn't go in the water there.
Both Malaysian and Thai military radar followed it from the point of diversion for an hour as it headed northwest toward the Andamans.
imho, the plane was shot down by a Chinese pilot. Obviously the Chinese gov’t doesn’t want their illegal policy about airspace they don’t own cast in a bad light, and without hard evidence, no one wants to create a big diplomatic blow, what with help needed in other diplomatic areas. I’m not a fan of muzzies, but I think the Malaysian gubmint was hung out to dry on this, by everyone.
Why would anyone believe the current narrative?

The pilot and sometimes the copilot are suspected of all kinds of things, but the fact is, there’s nothing that’s been released that appears to be suspicious at all, including what’s been said by his family members. Deleted file on what is after all a computer system? Stop the presses.
A signal supposed to have been from the missing plane, but which really has no provenance at all, gets analyzed using a 19th c method that’s never been used in a search like this is suddenly pushed as the one, the only, answer. Free publicity for INMARSAT.
The ongoing, apparently hopeless search is not called off, but the nature is changed, as it really had to be, and the families are finally told, look, everyone on the plane is dead.
Literally the only reports that could be the plane comes from a couple of eyewitness accounts, one a plane on fire and headed for the sea (oil rig off Vietnam) where very large debris is spotted, the other a report (perhaps it was more than one) of a low-flying airliner of some sort going across the Maldives.
Also, consider that the satellite sits almost three earth diameters above the Indian Ocean.
That means only a fairly small component of the airplane's velocity would be to or from the satellite. In order for the plane's full velocity to be manifested in the Doppler shift, it would have to be at the edge of the satellite's visibility and flying either directly towards or directly away from the satellite.
Been listening to John Kerry too much? As far as I knew, things like Doppler shift, satcom and airplanes were unknown in the 19th century.

In courts, eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
If the plane went down in flames near an oil rig, debris would have already been found by civilians.
If the plane went down near the Maldives, the Inmarsat satellite would have recorded different signal strength readings.
The Doppler shift goes back to at least 1842 (when he announced it).
