Today in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Joe Carr, candidate for U.S. Senate against incumbent moderate Republican Lamar Alexander, opened his campaign headquarters. I am from east Tennessee, not central Tennessee, and having some other things going on, I missed the first hour; but I arrived just in time to hear the introduction for Congressman Carr and to hear him speak. He did an excellent job, and the crowd was excited and energized.
One thing that I found interesting was Mr. Carrs report about polling that a firm had done. (I think that it is an internal polling firm.) I am not vouching for its accuracy; I am just relating the information that he presented. He said that the polling firm found that his name recognition was currently at only 46%. However, of those who have heard of him, he was in a dead heat with Alexander. Of those who had a opinion about him, Carr is leading by a two to one margin.
Carrs campaign manager is a young fellow, but he has worked with a number of other campaigns for conservative stalwarts, such as Ted Cruz. I spoke to him and said that it would be good to have positive news articles about Joe Carr, even if they are from tiny town newspapers. As long as we can link to them, we can post them and spread the word. (The number of articles available now is somewhat limited.)
I was also able to speak to Mr. Carr. Among other things I mentioned that I was a social conservative, one of the red-headed stepchildren of the Republican Party. I said that we knew that Lamar would never lead the charge on such issues, and we hoped that Congressman Carr would soon be in position to do so. His response was simple: Life first.
I was able to get bumper stickers and yard signs (which is one of the reasons that I went). The bumper stickers are fifty cents each, and the yard signs are one dollar. (I will probably also receive a bumper sticker in the mail, since the last time that I contributed, the form listed a space to check if you wanted a bumper sticker.)
I took some pictures and Ill try to post a few.
Pardon the vanity. I thought that this might be of interest to some.
I will be out visiting with family for a bit. If anyone has any questions, I can try to answer them later.
Carr. Not Lamar.

A good crowd was present.

Great report. Thanks!
Good report. Thanks for posting, EOHH.
Beat Lamar! Joe Carr for Senate.
Thanks, don-o.
Beat Lamar!
Carr for Senate!
I went to the grand opening, also, and arrived not long after you did. Based on where you took the first photo you posted, we were standing within a few feet of each other. Nice to know at least one other FReeper was there. :-)
I’ve been to three townhalls to hear Joe speak and to chat with him. Everyone in the crowds were enthusiastic, as they were today in the ‘Boro. I look forward to casting my vote for him in the primary and hope to be able to do it again in November!
Good to hear! I wish that I had known that you were there. We probably bumped into each other a time or two. I had originally hoped to post something ahead of time about the Grand Opening in hopes of attracting some FReepers, but I couldn’t find a good article quickly (in amongst a busy schedule).
As crowded as it was, we may well have bumped into each other at some point. I know I bumped into/was bumped into quite a bit. LOL!
I posted the email I received from Joe’s campaign on the FR TN forum the other night but I don’t know how many saw it.
Heck, the place could have been packed with FReepers and we’d never know it without something like a big “FR” stamped on our foreheads. :-D
