>>Think about what you wrote....... Pharma?
Yes. Pharma. (And lawyers too).
My cholesterol was 10 points over the “recommended” value. My doctor prescribed Crestor. The insurance company denied it. He wrote a 3 page letter explain why I needed Crestor and they consented. When I went to pick up my first month’s supply, the co-pay was $75. I called him up and told him that I would not pay that for 10 points! After some haggling, he agreed to put me on the generic Simvastatin (copay $4 for 3 months!). My cholesterol went from 180 to 100 in a month and has been there ever since.
Why did he pull out the biggest gun first? Simple. His office is practically decorated in Crestor swag.
The lawyer made him put me on statins for a measly 10 points. The pharma company encouraged him to go for the most expensive statin there is. It isn’t just me. Everyone’s doctor tries to get them on Crestor first, and then dials it down to generics when they balk at the copay.
It's the same thing with birth control pills. It's financially a dumb decision to provide them for free. The pharmaceutical companies have no incentive to offer inexpensive options.
ok.....
My experience was the $4 first and always.

NEWSFLASH:
“In only the first few months of the improved medical care provided by President Obama, one in four people with heart problems have been able to go off their medication. He related news, President Obama has generously increased welfare to 20% of the population; as opposed to the paltry 11% that the disgraced former president Bush allowed.”
Well both are needed for a whoopee :-)
