Navy base shooter got security credential this year (Update)
Stars & Stripes ^ | March 29, 2014 | Mike Hixenbaugh

The man who drove a semi-truck onto Norfolk Naval Station before killing a sailor received his transportation worker credential within the past few months, a source close to the investigation said Friday.

The detail comes a day after the Navy identified Jeffrey Tyrone Savage as the man at the center of its investigation into the shooting aboard the guided missile destroyer Mahan on Monday.

Savage, 35, has a long criminal record, including convictions for selling drugs and manslaughter, but family members said they believed the man who grew up in Portsmouth had finally begun to turn his life around after years in and out of prison.

They pointed to Savage's marriage last year to a long-time girlfriend and his efforts over the past several months to start a new career as a commercial truck driver.

(snip)

Savage would have had to pass a background check to receive the card, which allows unescorted access to secure ports and military installations. Manslaughter is not listed among the list of offenses that might disqualify someone from receiving the credential.

Is anyone starting to get the sense that a lot of the oversensationalized shootings around the nation might have had help from “above” and been pre-planned by an administration that has proved time after time that it is willing to do “whatever it takes” to impose their will upon us paricularly when it comes to disarming its citizenry? I have little doubt that they would sacrifice a whole school full of children if it meant they could finally take our guns and I really mean that. I honestly think nothing is beneath this “transparent” administration.

I wish I knew. But somewhere in the story, after they have been killed for killing one or more innocent people you will always find the words, "He was turning his life around. He was going to [fill in blank] Monday.

He must have passed the only security check that matters. He must have voted for Obama.

Ok...that gets him on the base.

Possibly the piers dependent what kind of paper work he may have had.

HOW does that get him on the Quarterdeck AND aboard the ship, saying he ‘wrestled’ the piece away from the Messenger or PO of the Watch, or is it just the OOD that is armed on the Quarterdeck?

Not so strange this guy and his ‘Clearance’...Do you suppose WJC or BO could pass a Standard BI, MUCH LESS one that gives you the ‘keys to the kingdom’.

I guess in both their cases better to run for High Office if you want access to certain records as their previous ‘life style’ surely wouldn’t warrant them the basic Clearance to allow them to attend a Naval School OR even allow them to enlist....

Security check? Who needs some old-fashioned check when we gots EBT cards.

A security clearance system and regulations this full of holes is just an expensive but worthless show. Will an IG get to the bottom of this? Terminate contracts? Fire the incompetent? Change the list of disqualifications to make them meaningful? We all know the answers.

I suggest:
1) the family of the murdered sailor sue the crap out of the “contractor” that gave the murderer a clearance.
2) anyone who fits “turning his life around” should be denied clearance automatically. Intentions don’t mean squat; changing their ways and separating from old colleagues is a massive challenge for any criminal. Demonstration of having turned one’s life around 5 or 10 years prior might mean something. Commercial trucking provides a means to all sorts of crime for those so inclined; this killer should not have had even a CDL.

.......so sick of hearing every time a black perp kills some people, black, brown or white “......well, uh, Deshawn was just beginning to turn his life around......”

Good grief!.....I’m gonna scream now!

And, ask me if I give a F!

These A holes started going south 9 months before their first birthday in some smelly bedroom somewhere where neither the mom or the dad gave a rats ass about bringing a child into their/OUR world and didn’t have 50 cents for a condom!

So, friends and family and “loved ones” listen up, NEW CONCEPT!, millions of us don’t give a damn that Deshawn was “beginning to turn his miserable, wretched life around, we’re tens of thousands of deaths and beatings past that now,..........we want the father AND THE MOTHER of this feral animal to PAY for the long list of transgressions they committed as parents of this killer”. Yes, this means running all the way back to “no condom”. What about 5 years in the slammer for that!? YES, in these cases, put mom and Dad on trial. Just as their is no statute of limitations on murder, let their be no statute of limitations on poor or no parenting (fatherless) starting with the first offense “failure to use a condom”.

At some point, the father and the mother should PAY for these murderers and “knockout” artists they have unleashed upon us all. And, may I remind all that feral, fatherless blacks prey the MOST upon defenseless fellow blacks. Would Mayo’s parents agree? He was defenseless.

They’re not divulging much info on why this happened. Supposedly he disarmed a female sailor, no surprise there, have to be politically correct. This is the kicker; “Manslaughter is not listed among the list of offenses that might disqualify someone from receiving the credential”. Unbelievable as so many manslaughter convictions come about as a plea after a charge of murder. We are so f-—ed up!

One would think that.

I've been “unhired” (as I will call it for lack of a PC term) AFTER I was told they wanted Me (passed drug testing, had all the required background in the biz and Training and 10 years experience) to be told 4 days later that I had a “Criminal background” because of a $52.56 NSF check and went to (Kangaroo) court for it and had it reduced to a Traffic ticket offense.

Paid the NSF and fees, etc, etc.

Keeping in mind there is a Fraud in the Whitehut...

I’d like to know how he got his CDL. If you have a criminal background the CDL schools in our area wont train you.

And no company will hire him....they do comprehensive background checks...because of the high insurance rates.

In California it's almost impossible for a new driver to get a trucking job...so drivers are forced to go out of state initially.

I'm guessing denial of the credential would be for really serious stuff.. like being a Tea Party member.

was shot while pushing the guard to the ground in an effort to protect her.... I see a problem right there with this sentence.

Well, allowing or forcing companies to hire those with manslaughter convictions, etc., certainly makes it seem that way. With Holder, I suspect racism is his primary motive, and if whites get murdered, so much the better.

‘Yin Sanpaku’

He has no official business and drives a big rig right up to the pier? There must be an accomplice.

Contrary to what this article says, I read somewhere else his relatives said he had been acting strange lately.

I was wondering about the drugs bit.

and it seems protocol was not followed even with him having “passed” the background check.

That’s great, just great.

This man was seemingly a nut who killed one guy, with systems being not followed as they were here it could have been lot worse. And even though I never heard of this story until today we can be sure that Freepers are not the only one keeping tabs on such incidents.

The guy he killed was not white. Here is a link to the story with details about the victim.

http://www.stripes.com/news/us/base-commander-sailor-killed-on-norfolk-ship-was-heroic-1.274740#.UziAz1d7RZY

Also you’ll notice the perp took the gun from a female sailor, and the dead guy rushed in to help.

What does anyone think this guy’s motive was? I’m afraid the one you offer just doesn’t make sense, it might have made some sense if the vic was white but that would be the only thing you could tell about a person by looking at him, you don’t know if someone is a Christian or a conservative and it doesn’t seem like he knew this guy but I suppose he could have. These articles raise more questions than they answer.
