White House Cyber Chief Says Snowden Damage Will Be Felt for Decades

Damage to U.S. national security caused by NSA contractor Edward Snowden will take decades to repair, the White House official in charge of cyber security said Friday. Snowden’s treachery is especially grave because he exposed how all the parts fit together—the blueprints for how America’s most significant intelligence enterprise actually works—which is also the blueprint for how to defeat it,” she said.

“So what does this mean in real terms? It means that the president may not have the intelligence he needs to have for crucial decisions. Nor will the Congress. We may not see threats we should have seen, never mind opportunities. It means that there may be future attacks that we do not see coming, which otherwise might have been prevented,” Van Cleav said in an email.

“will take decades to repair”

Lame.
He should resign immediately.

hey, the government’s spying on you!” and gave away the plans developed by the Manhattan Project, would I be a hero?
Just a little over dramatic there.

I know for a fact I've had phone conversations listened in on AND I received a (not so pleasant) letter from IRS that was addressed to me by hand, in longhand.

BTW, I'm not a member of any group(s) nor do I have a record.

... one has to wonder who is the enemy?

One only has to look at this shithead's itinerary.......China and then Russia, where he continues to cower.

Can you not buy a brain, for Christ's sake?

A CyberChief sounds like the scifi cross between a Pontiac and a Laptop!!

These people are too loopy to be embarrassed.

There are likely some positive outcomes that were assisted by US intell. But it is discouraging—all the way back to at least the Cuban crisis when we were surprised to learn of missiles present on Cuban soil—and did not even learn until later of the large number of Soviet troops present on the island. Any offensive action would have meant dead Russians and escalation.

Our bloated intell system in no way has earned anything close to the billions pumped into it annually. We get a lot of good paper shufflers—the best high paid bureaucrats and fat consultants that money could every buy. It will never protect America while treading on your liberty.

>> What do you have to say about what the NSA is doing?

Yet our elected “representatives” fully support via policy and funding every action the NSA takes. And this is never discussed in a serious manner — anywhere.

Yes they do, although the NSA has been doing stuff without telling Congress.

We are a threat to their funding, which is their only real concern.

Do not despair—Gen Washington had an excellent spy/intel organization. Yet even he suffered the likes of Benedict Arnold.

And his cause eventually prevailed, but not without some discomfort.

While our enemy might have our blueprint—it is just as unpredictable and spaghettized and useless in their hands!

NSA has been doing stuff without telling Congress.

I will agree with that comment. Since congress and nearly all government officials are known leakers ... telling them is like telling the enemy, for the enemy will know shortly if is an unknown to the enemy by telling a congressperson or any government official. Corruption is regrettably a way of life for far too many that lead us. Of course all the elected, unelected and media will tell us they are pure as the wind driven snow ... den.

“White House Cyber Chief Says Snowden Damage Will Be Felt for Decades.”

My gosh, I hope so!

If it’s not felt, I hope the reason is that those who might have felt it have all passed on.

I don’t believe a thing this regime says.

Boston was bombed and the travels of the terrorist brothers didn’t alert the NSA something was going down.
