You heard of the Lucas 3-position switch? Its settings are dim, flicker and off.

Well isn’t that a rather appropriate description of Piers? Actually I can think of too many in our halls of Congress that one of those 3 positions would/do apply to!

I bet we all have a favorite Pier somewhere, maybe a few favorite Piers. In all cases a place your favorite ship might be berthed? Well, unless it’s a pier for Ferries.

Just a guess.
