One of the nation's top political forecasters declared Tuesday that six-term incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) is in "deep trouble" against conservative challenger state Sen. Chris McDaniel in this year's Mississippi GOP senate primary on June 3.
Stuart Rothenberg wrote in Roll Call that McDaniel actually has "the best chance of any anti-establishment Senate hopeful to knock off an incumbent, and the defeat of six-term Senate veteran Thad Cochran would send shock waves through both the national media and the Republican Party."
"Cochran, 76, is in trouble in deep trouble primarily because of changes in the Republican Party," Rothenberg declared. "But its also true that the senator, and his campaign, didnt start his re-election effort where they needed to be."
On at least two separate occassions, Cochran, who reportedly wanted to retire but was convinced to run for another term so he could potentially chair the Senate's Appropriations Committee, has admitted that he was unfamiliar with the Tea Party movement. Rothenberg reported that Cochran, who has not had a competitive primary battle, is "rusty," "has no real organization," and has "lost touch over the years."
Rothenberg, who runs the influential and nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report, also wrote that when Cochran was first elected to Congress, "members were expected to 'bring home the bacon' to their districts or states like Southern Democrats did." That is exactly what Cochran has done, as he has become known as one of Washington's top appropriators who has worked across the aisle for more government spending even if that meant racking up more debt for the country.
Breitbart News has reported that "Cochran has voted on at least 11 occasions to raise the debt ceiling by at least $7.7 trillion over the past 24 years"

Good. He should be in trouble.
It’s open season on RINOS in the United States.
You know, it is too damn bad it had to come to this....but if these Rs do not LISTEN they fully deserve to be primaried OUT of office.
I would have LOVED to have O’Donnell or Murdouck in the Senate for Delaware and Indiana.....Even though they lost those races, they DID help remove a couple of liberal Republicans from maintaining power.
Short term pain for long term gain.
Some anti-Thad signs popped-up for the first time in my town last week. I can’t remember the exact wording, but they have a little rhino silhouette at the bottom. I’ve been seeing McDaniel signs and bumper sticker for weeks. So far I haven’t seen a single Cochran sign or bumper sticker.
To bad isn’t Aunt lindsey that is in trouble instead.
The man is in his 70’s. He should be doing something else.
Absolutely. Kick all these lifers out of Congress.
“I would have LOVED to have ODonnell or Murdouck in the Senate for Delaware and Indiana.....Even though they lost those races, they DID help remove a couple of liberal Republicans from maintaining power.

You’re exactly right! Mike Castle of Delaware would have been Arlen Specter’s replacement in the Senate. Specter out, Castle in, Establishment happy! The democrat in that seat is voting exactly as Castle would have, as Specter did. The only reason they wanted Castle is because he had an “r” next to his name and would give McConnell and his committee chairmen power.
The same in Indiana. Richard Lugar refused to endorse Mourdock, who won fair and square in the primary, and is THIS YEAR endorsing the democrat senate candidate in Georgia.
The attitude of these types is “if we can’t be in power, we want the democrats to rule! We must stop the conservatvies!”
Ya Think?! tHAD enough?! Which of these two gets your vote?
Damn that Haley Barber; I told him I don't like tea and he's making me go to a tea party?! I'm Chris McDaniel ... and I approve of this message.
Sounds like a Republican version of Robert Byrd, only Byrd was probably much more intelligent(Klan membership aside).
I think Lindsey is in some trouble ..especially the way the SC system requires 50% in round one ..he’ll have a hard time getting to that.
That he is in his 70’s is not a good reason for him to go. The fact that he has 6 terms there is the reason. Enough is enough.
Good.
When is Mitch McConnel’s primary?
That’s one I will DRIVE THERE to help campaign against
Yeah that’s how they operate and sometimes it’s worse than sour grapes.
The retired GOP senator, John Warner, is backing Mark Warner over Gillespie.
And the sitting GOP senator, Mark Kirk, is making nice with Durbin rather than backing the GOP candidate.
May 20th
Oh, let’s not forget Murkowski. Lost in the primary, then ran against the GOP nominee as a write-in candidate.
Ugh. The list is just endless.
Ping.
There was a big ‘retire thad’ sign at the Wesson exit on I55.
