KENT, Ohio - According to school officials, reports of a shot fired near Bowman Hall on the Kent State main campus.
Kent police are assisting Kent State police officers on the scene.
According to Executive Director of University Media Relations Eric Mansfield, the suspect is a black male wearing basketball shorts, carrying a silver handgun.
Officials are asking everyone to avoid the area. Seek shelter until further notice.
This FlashAlert, emergency text messages, was sent to all students: "Kent Main Campus: Report of a shot fired near Bowman Hall. Officers in area. Stay away from area. If in area, Shelter in place until further notice."

I was at OSU at that time...crazy time..very chaotic...gosh were we naive about the world and politics. Great music though.
The very sickest ones of that time are now high up in the administration...me, I just work a job so I can help redistribute the wealth. ha.
I was a very young mother at the time, and remember the shock to my sense of reality, by not only Kent State, but all the other horrible acts committed by my peers.
And, you are right that these evil self-centered fools decided to infiltrate and take over all of our institutions (even the girl scouts, for heaven’s sake).
My husband was teaching at SUNY-Buffalo in the early 70s, and we were ostracized by the younger fellow professors because we didn’t smoke pot, and didn’t want to take part in demonstrations and civil disobedience.
Sometimes I wonder why we stood by and watched the mayhem in silence. My guess is that we just couldn’t believe it, and assumed that it was a temporary aberration.
We guessed wrong.
I remember you being somewhat worried about Dad making it home from work unscathed by the violence taking place on campus when the protesters took over the administration buildings, etc.
My read: common everyday thug just carrying his piece, either accidental shot or threat to 1 of his co-druggies.
Now we have to start hearing about how we should have our guns taken away again. It never ends.
I’ll be curious to find out if this turns out to be accurate. IIRC, they locked down a campus after some idiot students called 911 to report hearing shots, next to a active contsruction site. Turns out it was a loud bang from the workers.
