Workplace violence.
RIP.
“They were journalists, they were overseas, they were AP, they were not married, they had careers......... they had it all!”
They were severely misinformed about the country they were living/working in...
“I wish they had been a little less trusting, but then they wouldn’t have been who they were/are.”
Maybe...a shame either way.
“Always treat the muslim as if it’s loaded. One would/should not point a weapon at a person, you never know... it might go off. Same with the muslim... is a muslim is pointed at a human, it might go off as well.”
Well put; it is always just beneath the surface.
“It’s just like they went on a safari... unarmed.”
Pretty much; good analogy.
-——They were severely misinformed——
There is truth in that statement but I believe their thought they were above the falderol Islamic customs and didn’t need to do as in Rome.
They were from New York and need not stoop to the level of playing Roman. It is just basic feminine arrogance

I don’t know; here in northern NJ violent crime in Newark is routinely swept under the rug, and when whites are beaten/robbed they seem genuinely surprised that they shouldn’t have been there at night. I think they are naive, but I don’t know if it is willful arrogance.
I get your drift.
In my mind, naivete is the product of willful arrogance.
One was from Canada and one was from Germany. And one was married. Other than that you got it right.
They were supposed to be protected by the Afghan army and police as they helped out with the election. One of their “protectors” shot them. Roughly the same as when the natives who are supposed to be allies turn on the U.S. troops.
So I now don’t think they really were that naive. There are issues in the election that they may have been on the “wrong” side of, in the view of their assassin, but I’m just guessing here. Nothing seems to point to their attacker even knowing who they were. But maybe more will come out on this.
Hey, there are Pulitzers to be won.
