The people of North Dakota put more trust and confidence in their state government than people in any other state, while the people of Illinois put the least.

In polling done in June through September 2013, Gallup asked at least 600 people in each state this question: “How much trust and confidence do you have in the government of the state where you live when it comes to handling state problems—a great deal, a fair amount, not very much or none at all?” …

Perhaps because in North Dakota, the state legislature meets only every other year and for a maximum of 60 days (usually somewhat more but not much)and most if not all of the legislators return to farms, ranches, or other careers when the session is over.

Rhode Island, third from the BOTTOM. Talk about a cesspool of politicians.

It doesn’t compute. People in IL have boundless faith in failed government programs and have for decades.

Illinois? Chicago?
The seat of the Democrat political/criminal machine?
The state that gave the USofA the worst, most corrupt, most traitorous POTUS in history?

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Huh.

I imagine Rhode Island is pretty far down the list too.

"Rhode Island...a cesspool of politicians."

I like to think of them as "colorful characters."

FWIW, I grew up in North Dakota. It is a small state where even the big cities like Fargo are tied to the land. I met every sitting governor at one time or another while I lived there. State legislators included the owner of our local hardware store, grocery store and my eighth grade history teacher.

Any who forget where they came from get voted out of office. Unfortunately, that rule does not apply as much to those who get promoted to Washington and make frequent cameo appearances and/or bring home pork.

Ever wonder why people in political cesspools keep voting for the fools and knaves in charge? Ever suspect that these cesspools have a long history of fraudulent elections? JFK would not have been president had Daley not produced the votes in Chicago to give him the electoral votes of IL.

In a lawful society, probably more than half of the big name pols in illinois would be spending time in the hoosegow. Most of them would not be allowed anywhere near positions of authority and responsibility.

The funny thing is that for all the "smart and sophisticated" people in northern illinois, they keep electing the same dogs over and over.

That one's been around for 60 plus years now. JFK had enough electoral votes to win without Illinois' 27 E.V.s.

The final electoral tally was 303 to 219 in favor of Kennedy.

Rhode Island is pretty far down the list too.

Third from the bottom, after Maryland, California, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania.

I'm wondering what Maine did to get sandwiched between RI and IL.

New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts are higher than one would expect.

There are 102 counties in IL. Two counties, Cook and Sangamon, are total cesspools of political corruption. The best thing that could happen to both of them would be 7 megatons of divine retribution (like what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah).
