Honey Maid takes anti-gay backlash...and turns it into a message of love

The makers of Honey Maid graham crackers have come up with a unique response to anti-gay backlash by some against its commercial featuring two gay dads and their family. They printed out the negative comments and turned them into a piece of art that spells out ‘Love.’

On March 10, Mondelez International, which manufactures the popular crackers under the Nabisco brand, launched its ‘This is Wholesome’ advertising campaign. The commercial features several different kinds of American families, including biracial and gay ones.

The commercial, which has more than 4.7 million hits on YouTube, starts off with the two dads huddled over their baby feeding a bottle. It then cuts to the two men walking. Following, that it features other families doing everyday things while enjoying Honey Maid crackers.

At the end of the 30-second spot, the two dads are again seen, this time in front of their house, posing with their baby and their other young son. A tagline accompanying the YouTube video reads, ‘No matter how things change, what makes us wholesome never will.’

Since the ad ran, the comments Mondelez has received have been overwhelmingly positive.

Honey Maid responds to anti-gay comments with new commercial

‘Beautiful commercial,’ one commenter wrote. ‘A family is a family no matter what. Awesome job, Honey Maid. This is what the world is, people will just have to accept that and open their minds to it. It's a wonderful thing. Love is love.’

However, the company did receive a fair share of negative comments.

‘Nothing like exploiting the gay community for some advertising and $,’ another person wrote. ‘Keep your advertising where it belongs.’

A family is a family no matter what.

Don Corleone would agree.

Yes well let’s see how many graham crackers they eat. We love those but will find something else to snack on. I don’t want to eat gay crackers, can’t tell where they have been.

I posted my opinion on the Honey Maid facebook page about this yesterday. I was direct and told them I would take one step to the left and reach for generics since they decided to inject themselves into social politics.

Withing 30 minutes, my facebook account was suspended. This was after I got like 25 nasty replies calling me names and threatening to do various things to me. This is how bad is has become. fortunately, I couldn't give a rats a$ about my facebook account, I only really use it for garbage like that and centralized logon. Point is, the left coast controls just about everything internet. You aren't even allowed an opposing opinion. Funny thing was, I never even said anything out of line, and the only thing I questioned was the wisdom of a large company purposefully alienating a very large portion of their customers. Didn't matter though, facebook suspended my account for some sort of policy violation that I didn't bother looking into. I'm sure it had something to do with making other people feel uncomfortable or some such BS...

Maybe they can show one of the males visiting the oher male who’s in the hospital for any of a number of diseases contracted from unprotected anal sex. They can both be eating graham crackers and laughing while talking about the terminally sick male’s funeral arrangements.

Guess that innocent baby will just have to suffer with being fed formula, since there’s no chance those homosexual dads can nurse the kid. Everyone knows the benefits of mother’s milk are far superior to those of formula, so this child is being deprived already.

Those are the only graham crackers I like, maybe Nabisco makes some slightly different ones I also like. Guess I have to ignore that gay dads stuff which is a turnoff. They are some percentage of market share. I won't boycott stuff I like but that second commercial was sappy.

Mondelez is a company that split off from Kraft Foods, thought they were more international. That happened in late 2012 I think. Mondelez stock has been running in the 30's while Kraft is about mid 50's (haven't looked for a few days).

There is little that is "wholesome" about homosexual behavior.

The consequences of homosexual activity have significantly increased the cost of medical care to the population at-large. Costs of diagnosis and testing have increased. Because of the risk of cancer and other diseases, a simple sore throat could be instead be caused by a sexually transmitted disease. Hemorrhoids could be instead anal cancer, rectal gonorrhea, or rectal chlamydia. You will pay for those additional costs, not corrupt lawmakers and lawyers in black robes, or foolish people who believe that men and women are freely interchangeable as long as they are in "love."

The encoding into law perversion will adversely impact the culture resulting in the spread of AIDs and other STDs, the destruction of the family, and increased risk to the physical and mental health of the population, with attendant increases in cost of health care. What is wholesome about that?

You’re expecting backlash? I’m not. More of America is supporting the gay lifestyle and gay marriage. People who don’t support it, especially Christians, are attacked as homophobes, intolerant, being against love, and as the equivalent of 1950s era racists. People are buying in, and I’m sure some of it is due to fear, but there are no signs of a backlash.
