Chicago police are reporting that the murder rate for the first quarter of the year is the lowest it’s been in more than 50 years, which gun advocates are attributing to a concealed carry law passed in Illinois last year.
The first three months of 2014 have seen the fewest number of homicides since 1958 — six fewer than this time in 2013, and 55 fewer than this time in 2012, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Gun-rights advocates argue that concealed carry laws can reduce crime and keep the population safer. The state began accepting applications for permits in January.

That was the first thought I had as well. The law is too new to have had much of an effect. It will take a few criminals getting blown away in the act to get the attention of the criminal class in Chicago.

Reduction is based primarily due to the harsh winter. Set the record straight and don’t baseline the truth artificially low... the Rats will latch onto a “spike” in murders and drumbeat this to the media and coerce some sort of action against legal gun owners.
If Chicago’s improved Police Training was the true cause of a drop in murder rates to levels of 54 years ago, these spectacular techniques and necessarily remarkably innovative techniques would be on the front page of every newspaper in the country!
Alas, they are not. Conversely, the radical drop in murder rates that is contemporaneous with the enactment of concealed carry laws should be on the front page of every newspaper. But alas, it is not.
The only conclusion is that liberals (and their media lapdogs) would rather see Americans murdered, than acknowledge that yet another of their agenda items is seriously flawed — and even dangerous to Americans.
I’ll continue to go with death as the operative cause for the decline.
That is, the drop in criminal activity is the result of the criminals murdering each other.

Sure. The crime rate is down because of the effectiveness of the police unions and midnight basketball, plus all of a sudden the thugs got their guns taken away by the oh-so-efficient cops.
Why should anybody expect anything but self-aggrandizement and lies from these Liberal politicians? Wait until the weather warms up. They had better plan to have their midnight basketball games down at the morgue. It will save them cartage fees.
We were noticing the winter lull in shootings before anyone got approved, so that observation is valid. I got approved a few weeks ago, been carrying ever since then. Main thing is remembering where you are and what you can do. It’s an unduly complex law, and is certain to snare the less careful. There are still too many gun-free zones available to criminals, and there is still concerted effort, in Cook County particularly, to impede the free exercise of our 2A rights. Otis McDonald, a key legal pioneer of the modern 2A resurgence in Illinois, recently passed away. He would no doubt be proud of the legacy he has left to us, but it is just a beginning, and there is still much work to do.

I sympathize with your existence behind enemy lines. I am blessed, live in open country. Few people, friendly local law enforcement, old friends and fresh air.

Cities have always been corrupt. Huge cities are generally the most corrupt.

It was the freezing temperatures. For weeks nobody could hang out long enough to get shot.
After the shooting, police responded and determined that the man was shooting in self-defense. The man had a valid firearm owner's identification card, a valid concealed carry permit and police were able to determine that he had completed a required concealed carry class and was properly trained
It's already been tried and tested. Came out pretty good, too.
Well if cold temps make them less violent we might should make a deal with Obozo’s friend Putin and have them moved to Siberia.
