New York Citys longest-serving congressman wont pay his rent.
State taxpayers were stiffed out of at least $87,000 when Rep. Charles Rangel stopped paying for the district office he rents in Harlems Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building, records obtained by The Post show.
His staffers excuse? They lost the lease, according to state Office of General Services correspondence.
I finally heard back from Congressman Rangels office and it seems we havent gotten the signed lease back because they lost it! OGS real-estate specialist Sydney Allen wrote in a July 30, 2013, e-mail to a colleague that was obtained by The Post.

Seven grand a month - in Harlem? That must be one big office.
He’s black move on there is nothing to see here
Rangel paid $7,253 in monthly rent on the 125th Street office he has rented since 2000.
I don’t think you quite get it,
he paid $7,253 in total rent for the period 2000
to 2013, then they lost the lease....
I guess they thought it was kind of over priced or
Culture of corruption.
Then how did the total of unpaid rent come to $87 grand in one year?
Pure BS. This guy is a snake and creepy to boot.
I thought they got a stipend to run their home offices from the Congress budget?
Ironic, one crook, Rangel, paying rent in a building named for another crook, Powell. What a country.
Penalties? Ok, just kidding.
Do you think you or I could get a year behind on
a state rental?
I wish I knew the rules for blacks when I was renting. I would have to show up in court in black face and be able to speak Ebonics fluently to get away with those rules.
“You’re a racist when you bring things like up”
There’s no laundry like a money laundry.
And a Korean War hero to boot. How DARE someone bring this up.
And the “current crook” Rangel ran the “last crook” (ACP) out of office by claiming he was, well a crook! Which was the truth. ACP spent more time in Bimini than he did in NYC. The only difference with Rangel is that he prefers to hang out in the Dominican Republic. Now I have read stories to the effect that ACP Jr. was thinking of running for the seat, charging that Rangel was, a crook. Oh well, they are all half-blacks that “migrated” to NYC from the “Caribbean.”
I’ll bet the New York Times gave Rangel a pass too...
