What Mozilla Has Taught Us

“Opposing gay marriage in America today is not akin to opposing tax hikes or even the war in Afghanistan,” wrote Will Oremus, Slate’s senior tech writer in an altogether typical op-ed applauding the sacking of the “bigoted” Brendan Eich for his support of traditional marriage.  “It’s more akin to opposing interracial marriage: It bespeaks a conviction that some people do not deserve the same basic rights as others.”

Last week, Eich could not grovel quite enough to keep his job as CEO of Mozilla, a software enterprise best known for producing the Firefox web browser.  He resigned under pressure after “marriage equality” activists revealed that Eich had donated $1,000 to the 2008 Proposition 8 campaign in California.  Proposition 8, which passed with more than 52 percent of the vote, amended the California constitution to read, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

Distressingly few editorialists came to Eich’s defense.  Like too many others, Oremus made the case that Eich’s forced departure was somehow anomalous: the tech community, being “socially liberal,” has higher standards than the rest of America.  Mozilla chairwoman Mitchell Baker made the same point to justify the sack.  “Mozilla prides itself on being held to a different standard,” said Baker, “and, this past week, we didn’t live up to it.”

Both Oremus and Mitchell seemed to making the case that yielding to the tech mob’s desire for the head of the “bigot”  – Oremus’s word – somehow elevated the move or at least justified it.  This may be a “different standard” from what we are used to, but there is nothing historically unusual here at all.  Fascist mobs routinely reduce the most decent of opponents to cruel stereotypes and demand their exclusion from polite society.

The militancy of the Fascist Left must be met by a militant response. An object lesson must be made of Mozilla. Either they rehire Eich or they must be destroyed. Boycott their products, urge their employees to leave, shun their managers, and anything else to punish their behavior.

I've been trying to find out where Mozilla makes it's money. Came across this.

As Mozilla notes in its report, about 85 percent of its royalty revenue in 2011 came from its contract with Google. While Mozilla has similar deals with other search engines, including Microsoft’s Bing, it’s clear that the majority of Firefox users still prefer to use Google. “The receivable from this search engine provider [Google] represented 77 percent and 64 percent of the December 31, 2011 and 2010 outstanding receivables, respectively.”

So it looks like if you use their google toolbar they make money from that.

This time it was the homosexual agenda, next time will it be because the opposing candidate was Morman, Catholic, or just simply conservative?

Consider for a moment if your political contributions were used as a weapon against your livelihood. Back in 2008 I worked for a small franchise everyone there was 0bama-googly eyed. I requested a day off...I never asked for days off...and was asked what I needed it for. I replied I was going to the rally for McCain/Palin. I was unemployed from them within 3 months. They would rather lose their best salesperson, hardest worker, and most knowledgeable associate than put up with an unmasked conservative.

All the easier to take it away. Do like me and switch to Blue Moon. I tried Opera but their inability to let me import my bookmarks toolbar (I use it like an engineering library with lots of folders and subfolders, etc.)

Blue moon looks and in almost all respects acts like Firefox so dump them and they lose a large portion of their revenue. So in this case, we can make a huge impact by exercising our “free exercise thereof” in response to their free exercise thereof.

So we have the mirror image of the context for Arthur Miller's, The Crucible, written in 1953 in opposition to the alleged excesses of McCarthyism. In the process, Miller distorted the history of the Salem witch trials and equally distorted current events but his stage play has emerged as a praiseworthy metaphor in opposition to McCarthy.

Now we see the roles reversed, those calling for scalps of the alleged homophobes are the McCarthyites-or at least what McCarthyites were alleged to have been-and the victims, many of hold were in fact guilty of communist sympathies and even treachery, are now the innocent.

We will wait in vain for the great literary revolt against this new "McCarthyism."

Nobody’s put it together yet, but expect to see more and more attacks against anyone who is even slightly against the “gay agenda”. People outside the gay culture are completely unaware of the real craziness just under the surface - and the pervasive interconnectivity. Gay males are not focused on monogamy; they are for the most part obsessed with the next sexual connection over and over. Gays are distributed throughout every sphere and they are aware of each other within organizations and their loyalties are to each other first over everything else.

They have amassed huge resources and top-level connections and they are using them mercilessly against anyone who opposes the self-destructive spread of their culture. They will not stop at attaining “normalcy” in the view of the rest of society - the fever pitch will grow until we are required to accept all parts of perverse world.

I'm sure it does. The flip side is that I wouldn't work for an @sshole who would fire a productive employee for no other reason than his political views.

Probably not just the google toolbar. If you use firefox to google, they are probably getting a referral fee. They might make more if you use the google toolbar, but I bet they earn money toolbar or not any time you go to google.

But they probably have similar arrangements with other search engines. So shifting the search engine while continuing to use Firefox probably wouldn't work.

Switch to another browser and let that browser get the google revenues.

I know the issues with Google and what did I say that in any way elicited your barrage of nebulous questions in regard to the topic of this thread. As for Google, it is a source of last resort to find what I need. As more and more of these homonazi issues appear, that takes just one more off the list that I will use for a primary resource. The fact that I refrain from the regular use of any such resource drops the bottom line until they either eventually change their worldview by beiing slapped with reality, or the biggest reality check of going out of business.
