Pope presses anti-AIDS chastity strategy in Africa

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis has praised church workers in Africa who promote chastity as a key way to prevent the spread of HIV.

Francis was speaking Monday at the Vatican to bishops from Tanzania.

Many non-Catholic health care workers advocate condoms as an important weapon to fight the spread of the HIV virus that causes AIDS. The Vatican opposes condom use because church teaching forbids contraception.

Francis praised church health care workers in Africa who care for those with HIV/AIDS and "all who strive diligently to educate people in the area of sexual responsibility and chastity."

In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI said male prostitutes who intend to use condoms might be taking a step toward greater responsibility. The Vatican insisted Benedict wasn’t justifying condom usage to prevent HIV’s spread.

I haven’t time for a long post here, but past analyses have clearly shown that the chastity strategy not only is the right thing to do, according to Church teaching, but it WORKS.

The more condoms the UN and Planned Parenthood and the rest of the idiots have distributed, the more AIDs has spread. Because a condom is not a reliable AIDS preventive, and uncontrolled sex with numerous people is the quickest way to spread it.

The statistics are very clear on this.

Maybe we should send Jocelyn Elders on a mission to Africa.

Do I need a “/s” tag?

My tongue is only half inside my cheek.

Non-Catholic Christians in Africa used to promote the “A-B-C-D”

A = Abstain if not married
B = Be faithful to your spouse
C = Condom, if you can’t abstain or be faithful or else
D = DIE you will.

Yah that’s gonna fly. Tell people who face insane infant mortality rates, high early death rates due to mal nutrition, chronic grinding poverty, bacteria ridden water, internal parasitic infections and no hope for a decent future to stop trying to procreate their species. You go, Popester, tell them to abstain from surviving, let God sort it out.

Despite all the tragedies you mention, Africa’s population continues to grow. AIDS has been terrible in the continent, but no where near as bad as AIDS groupies have said. Besides, Uganda’s program WORKED.

I’d need to see the WHO report on that. Birth control, let alone abstinence has been a dismal failure wherever it has been tried except in China where it was carried out at the barrel of a gun. Authorities utterly disregard the fact that Western nations and Japan are seeing stagnant or falling birth rates. And why is that? My take is that it is because there is not threat to survival, simple. When reproduction becomes a matter of choice and not instinctive, biological necessity, birth rates go up. This is a forehead slapper.

If all the social Darwinist and Malthusian over population mongers, most of whom reside in leftyville or among the fascist oligarchy would instead start agitating for bringing the 3Rd World up to industrial nation standards, the birth rates there would naturally subside just like our did. Try and sell that to an environazi.

“When reproduction becomes a matter of choice and not instinctive, biological necessity, birth rates go up”

Sentence should read “...birth rates go down.”

The Left has a lot of death on it’s hands regarding the banning of DDT and the rise in malarial deaths, etc. It’s true that child mortality rates influence the number of births and that industrialization, education, etc., would cause a reduction in births, but that’s not the only cause of the ‘birth dearth’ in industrialized countries.

No, everywhere. But he focused on Africa in this talk because he was talking to the Tanzanian bishops.

????

What? You evidently have a basic misunderstanding of what he's talking about. He's not telling faithful loving married people to abstain. He's telling everybody else to abstain. Faithful loving marriages are where well-raised children come from.

You are right in your indictment of the Malthusian environazis, but the Pope is not in their camp. In fact, he is --- as far as I know --- their principal global opponent.

Strange you didn't notice that.

You may have missed the rather important fact that faithful marital sexual intercourse is chaste by definition. It is no violation of chastity at all for married couples to enjoy sexual union.

You miss my point in your sectarian hair splitting. Any form of birth control in the 3rd World, whether by the use of drugs or implements or abstinence, is going to be trumped by biological survival urges. It won’t work, it will make fools of those who think it will and waste a lot of time and resources. Industrialize the 3rd World now!

Over population is an 18th century Malthusian lie that was formulated in the absence of the power of technology. More people succumbed to famine up to WWII than do so today with double the WWII era population. In fact, there is no famine today except in North Korea. This planet can easily support 100 times its present population, probably more.

If the Pope wants to encourage morality and stable family life, good on him. But trying to couple that effort to population control simply admits that population control issues are a better sell than morality and is being used to propel morality into wider use. So when population control fails, its propaganda link, morality, also will take a hit and be delegitimized as another failed Western diktat.

But he didn't "try to couple that effort to populaiton control." You did.

We're finished.
