Liberal IntoleranceLets get something straight: Liberals are the smart ones. The tolerant ones. The open-minded ones. I know this because liberals are constantly telling me (and everyone else) how smart and tolerant and open-minded they are
Except when theyre not.
The other day Brendan Eich, the CEO of the tech company Mozilla, that created the web browser FIrefox, was forced out of his job and out of the whole company by an employee revolt. His crime? In 2008 he contributed $1,000 to a California ballot initiative, Proposition 8, which opposed same-sex marriage.
I have the feeling that if Mozilla had the power to send Eich to a re-education camp, the liberal ayatollahs at the company would have done just that. Lacking that kind of power, forcing him to resign and give up the job he had held for just 11 days would have to suffice.
For the record, no one is suggesting that Brendan Eich treated gay employees differently than anyone else at Mozilla. No one is suggesting he called them names or discriminated against them in any way at all. In fact, in his 15 years at Mozilla theres no evidence that he ever brought up his personal views about gay marriage.
None of that mattered. Brendan Eich had offended sensibilities at Mozilla, a supposedly progressive company in Silicon Valley. He also offended management at the popular dating website OKCupid, which has both straight and gay clients. OKCupid called on its customers to boycott Firefox urging them to not use it when going online to OKCupid.
Being opposed to same-sex marriage in the liberal bubble apparently is proof enough of bigotry. Simple as that.
Of course, that would make Barack Obama a homophobe, too, since in 2008 he also was against gay marriage. Call me crazy but Im betting that 99.9 percent of the lefties who work at Mozilla voted for Mr. Obama, despite his hateful views on gays.
After they forced Mr. Eich out of his job, Mozilla issued a statement:
Mozilla prides itself on being held to a different standard, it said, and, this past week, we didnt live up to it. We know why people are hurt and angry, and they are right: its because we havent stayed true to ourselves. We didnt act like youd expect Mozilla to act. We didnt move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. Were sorry. We must do better.
So the employees of Mozilla are hurt and angry and this is because they hold different views from their boss? Does everyone in the company have to hold liberal views on gay marriage? How about national defense? Taxes? Abortion? I thought liberals were the ones who worship at the altar of diversity. Apparently diversity of opinion doesnt count. Unacceptable views at Mozilla must be punished. On the important issues, like gay marriage, employees must march in lock step. This is what liberal intolerance looks like.
But it isnt only those hateful right-wingers who find this whole episode so appalling. Even an icon in gay America the intellectual father of gay marriage said the whole episode turns his stomach.
In 1989 Andrew Sullivan, the smart, well-respected, openly gay journalist, wrote the first story advocating gay marriage. If hes unhappy, the liberals at Mozilla should listen. In a blog post entitled The Hounding of a Heretic, Sullivan wrote:
The guy who had the gall to to express his First Amendment rights and favor Prop 8 in California by donating $1,000 has just been scalped by some gay activists.
Will he now be forced to walk through the streets in shame? Why not the stocks? The whole episode disgusts me as it should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society.
If this is the gay rights movement today hounding our opponents with a fanaticism more like the religious right than anyone else then count me out. If we are about intimidating the free speech of others, we are no better than the anti-gay bullies who came before us.
And Tammy Bruce, a conservative radio talk show host who is also openly gay, blasted what she called the gay gestapo for transforming Mozilla into a bastion of intolerance and punishment.
Reasonable people may disagree on gay marriage. I happen to be for it. And no, I do not believe that anyone who opposes gay marriage automatically is a bigot. I do think opponents are on the wrong side of history. But let them make their case. Thats how its supposed to work in a free country like ours.
Liberals, of all people, ought to know that, because liberalism supposedly is about keeping an open mind, being tolerant of views you dont agree with, and letting the other guy have his say without making him fear some kind of punishment simply for expressing an opinion. But too many liberals today dont know any of that. Too many have sold out their liberal values. Theyve opted instead for rigid left wing ideology.
They are the liberals who have forgotten how to be liberal.
Very well said. This episode has shown that homosexual activists and their liberal allies are bullies.
And bullying has recently become a liberal cause celebre. I assume that the liberals excuse this, though, that it’s okay to be a bully if done in support of liberal causes.
The chances of the media calling the homosexual activists and their liberal allies out on their bullying is very slim, however. Since they are “on the right side of history” as these homosexual marriage activists constantly tell us, their bullying will not be perceived as being negative.
Goldberg has stated “for the record” that he is for gay marriage.
Modern liberals never were actually liberal. In America but not abroad, the word liberal was hijacked by socialists in the 1920s, and ever since then its meaning here has been the inverse of what its meaning had been in America, and what its meaning remained abroad. Thus, Theodore Roosevelts famous 1910 Man in the Arena speech"It is not the critic who counts . . . the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arenawas liberal everywhere in 1910, but is the opposite of what liberal means in America today. The precise opposite of It is not the critic who counts is, You didnt do that.
You didnt do that is critic-ism - criticism as an ideology. And yet people marvel that journalists -whose forte is criticism and PR - favor the ersatz liberalism which is actually socialism, and oppose actual liberalism.
Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from BIGOTRY.LOL
Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and

I watched Bernie last night. In typical squish fashion, he has to preface his criticism of the gaystapo with a PSA that he’s pro gay marriage and those that aren’t are on the wrong side of history. LOL!
It was also funny to see how out of touch Uncle Bill O’Reilly is relative to technology. He had no clue what Mozilla did as a company or even the function of a web browser.
O’REILLY: OK. Now, this Mozilla outfit, they are driving people to certain Web sites and machinery. It’s a consumer-oriented thing, right. That’s how they make their money?
GOLDBERG: They make a Web browser called Firefox. If you want to get on the Internet, there are a number of ways you can do it. And Firefox is one of the more popular ways to do it.
O’REILLY: All right. So, they make their money by people coming in - - — and using their services, correct?
Liberals are only ‘tolerant’ of themselves.
It’s as if conservatives went around proclaiming how ‘tolerant’ they were for accepting members of the NRA...
Goldberg's anti-thug. That's his position and on that he's 100% right.
This is how totalitarian governments get traction. Pretty soon it devolves into breaking windows of storekeepers that are not of their persuasion and finally making them wear a symbol on their clothes akin to a “Star of David” just before they are sent away to the work camps or worse. Its history and should be remembered. It can happen here.
“Liberals” have NEVER been tolerant.
While they lack sufficient power, they demand “tolerance” from others.
Once they have power, they do not tolerate any conflicting views, voices, or beliefs.
You’re right... it can happen here. It’s starting to happen here. We’re at the beginning of the horror.
Sounds like Muslims...
their ideology has the same original source, of course.
And their ultimate goal is the same.
Nothing wrong with that, it just amuses me to watch what analysts and guests have to eat when O'Reilly exercises his dictatorial and economic power over them....and equally, what the Catholic O'Reilly has to eat from his atheistic, humanist, secular and anti-Christian guests.....and analysts like the pro-gay-marriage, social-leftist Goldberg.
In the long run, I believe this bunch, including BO'R, are all so elitist, arrogant and liberal in their various ways that they all deserve each other...and may they enjoy themselves on the Factor as much as we do when watching them hate and knife each other when the opportunity arises.
Modern Liberals are no longer Liberal—they are Progressive Socialists. More Marxist than anything like the Demoratic party of JFK or Truman. Now its about power and holding it. They will use any tool in the government to keep out the GOP. Look what they did to the Tea Party? Look what they did to Sarah Palin? Hollywood—Media—Talk show Comedians—lies and rumors turned her into a comic book character toxic to the mainstream. BUT their days are numbered—if it takes a decade—they will be finished.
Thanks... I’m feeling a little alone today - that helps.
Liberals aren’t liberal at all, they co-opted the word that used to have positive connotations relating to LIBERTY.
