I suspect that the Myrtle Beach influence will soon infiltrate the whole little state.

I am as conservative as you, but your notion is ridiculous.
If you abolish all liberal arts course, you lose the ability to produce and educate people who can argue with the Liberal/Left; in effect, you forfeit the game to them.

Their baseball team record is referenced to the degree of homosexualization on campus.

I am speaking of ONE PARTICULAR institution that stinks up my neighborhood worse than a landfill. You must not live near here or know much about USC-Upstate. As a long-ago liberal and liberal arts major, I know there's no way you share commonality with my political leanings now and make the statement you just did. Get off the pot or something. Hour's late.

I know little about USC-Upstate, at least as it exists now; but I am a third generation USC alumnus - and one who majored in liberal arts and proud of it. The techniques I learned at Carolina equipped me to deal quite effectively with the craziness of the politics of the city in which I live
For I am a conservative living in San Francisco, CA, and my girlfriend is a graduate of Berkeley with a degree in liberal arts.
I don't know your alma mater or the degree you received but apparently you didn't master the most important aspect of a liberal arts education: the ability to think, especially to think and analyze with a critical mind.

I know little about USC-Upstate...

What are you thinking?! NO ONE was slamming Carolina! USC-Upstate has only the worst aspects of Carolina and doesn't serve the Upstate well if at all.

I have been speaking of ONLY the USC-Upstate PROBLEM, which was the broad heading of this FR thread! Sorry you felt I was attacking a liberal arts education in general; I wasn't; not on this thread anyway.

A conservative living near the Golden Gate? Well, do something truly conservative rather than censure another conservative (or get off the pot).

One of the critical strengths of a liberal arts education is learning that no one is above criticism. One of the strengths of the conservative movement is the willing to criticize our own, a trait not found on the political Left.

Does USC-Upstate have a problem beyond the seeming idiocy of offering this course? If the only concern one has about the institution is some silly, trite course called How to be a Lesbian in 10 Days, then the institution is in fairly good shape, at least in my opinion.

You should learn of some of the crazy courses and seminars that are offered at CA colleges and universities. Perhaps I've gotten a bit jaded living in CA, but from what I've read of higher education in SC, Carolina and its branches have far more serious problems (mainly financial) than one silly course. Perhaps the state legislature should spend more time trying to discover a solution to the money problems than arguing over the course offerings at one of Carolina's branches.

Geez, my daughter attends a USC state school. I don’t think there are any “distractions” like that, there. I hope not.
