Oberlin College Sued Over French Professor’s Alleged Harassment ( Muslims )

Oberlin College professor Eunjung An sued her employer last month, alleging that Oberlin failed to protect her from Ali Yedes, a fellow French Department professor whom An alleges has harassed her and threatened her life.

According to Prof. An, Prof. Yedes — who also serves as the faculty adviser of Oberlin’s Muslim Students Association (MSA) and as a “religious life affiliate” for the Islamic Center of Cleveland (ICC) — has “engaged in a pattern of severe or pervasive unwelcome harassment directed at Plaintiff and other female employees at Oberlin” since January 2006.

An alleges that last August, Yedes told another professor that he had “brought his nephew to the United States on a student visa some time in the past few years, specifically to ‘stab and kill someone from his department,’ in particular a French professor who is Asian.”

An’s civil complaint against Oberlin states that she “has been the only Asian French professor” during the time in question.

According to the complaint, An reported the incident to a senior member of the Oberlin French Department, “who told her that Yedes had behaved similarly toward the female Department Chair and told Plaintiff she needed to develop a thicker skin.”

Sounds like the USDA lady whose throat the 911 hijacker threatened to slit. She tried to be culturally sensitive and help him integrate into the US. Thick skin, stiff upper lip, exposed throat and all that.
