Another Tea Party versus Republican establishment battle is brewing in this June's Oklahoma Republican U.S. Senate primary, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has come out on the other side of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
On Monday, Huckabee endorsed Congressman Jim Lankford (R-OK). In March, Palin endorsed Lankford's rival, T.W. Shannon, former Speaker of the House in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
On Wednesday of last week Tea Party favorite Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) endorsed Shannon. Then on Friday, Dr. Ben Carson also endorsed Shannon. The Senate Conservatives Fund, which is backing a host of Tea Party challengers around the country, is also backing Shannon over Lankford.
Shannon, 36, who served as an aide to former Congressman J.C. Watts (R-OK), was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2006. In 2013 he became the youngest Speaker of the House in the state's history. His campaign website claims he "has been coined by many 'the most conservative Speaker in State History.' "
Shannon resigned as Speaker in February when he announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. During his one year as Speaker, Shannon pushed several conservative bills through the House that became law. One law requires recipients of payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to work at least 20 hours per week. Another generates cash for the state through the sale of unused assets and property.
Shannon's opponent, Congressman Lankford, can also claim conservative credentials. He receives an 83% rating in the latest Heritage Action Scorecard, 1% better than retiring Senator Tom Coburn, generally considered one of the more conservative members of the Senate.
But Lankford's conservative credentials falter in light of his 2013 Club for Growth scorecard, where his 70% rating ranks him as only the 120th most conservative member of Congress.

Impy has it right. Lankford is acceptable but Shannon is better and since the primary winner will be the general election winner, we can go for the most conservative choice without any worry.
Something like this is happening in Nebraska, as well. I would be satisfied with either Shane Osborne or Ben Sasse and am personally undecided on that one. I don’t like some of the attacks on Osborne.
I saw Shannon in an interview on one of the FoxNews prime time programs about a month ago.
He was very impressive and clearly Conservative in his views. Like Sen. Scott, it doesn’t hurt at all that he’s a conservative black.
Read who the 3 are endorsing Shannon and then remember that the Hay-seed Huckster is endorsing Lankford. What does that tell us about Mike Huckabee folks.
The race has gotten it’s first democrat entry. State Senator Constance Johnson.
She made the news last year. She must be her state’s Wendy Davis.
Sounds like she’ll be running on a “kill the babies” platform, in Oklahoma!
Yeah.
TW is the REAL DEAL! I know him personally and he is a wonderful, Conservative, God fearing man.
If you want Ted Cruz to have an ally in the Senate.. go vote for TW. This man won’t go into Washington DC to “get along” he’ll go into Washington DC with a wrecking ball.
During TW’s time as Speaker in Oklahoma they passed some of the MOST Conservative legislation in Oklahoma history. Included but not limited to
1) Ran the illegals out of the state with a law TOUGHER than the AZ law.
2) DEFUNDED the Arts. Bahahaha!
3) They term limited the hell out of state and county officials. So.. rats like this Constance Johnson may get a few state positions.. but she’s TERM limited! So she can’t be in office long enough to gain any prominence. This will ensure GOP control in Oklahoma for a long time.
4) They cut spending
5) They voted to have ‘nothing’ to do with Obamacare
There are more those are just ones I can think of right now....
That happened 2 years, my mistake.
Lankford is TERRIBLE
Congressman Lankford’s record includes:
Voted to raise the debt limit three times. (2013 RCV #30, 2011 RCV #677, 2011 RCV #690)
Voted to fund Obamacare four times. (2013 RCV #640, 2011 RCV #941, 2011 RCV #719, 2011 RCV #179)
Voted for the Ryan-Murray budget agreement that increased spending, raised taxes, and cut benefits to military retirees. (2013 RCV #640)
Voiced support for amnesty for illegal immigrants as well as a path to citizenship. (AP, 7/10/13)
Voted to allow the National Security Agency (NSA) to continue its bulk collection of phone record data. (2013 RCV #412)
Voted against strengthening the work requirements in the food stamp program for individuals receiving benefits. (2013 RCV #283)

I’m glad I’m supporting Shannon. There will likely be a runoff.
Yep!! Me too!
Supporting him big time!!
” The are blind to the fact that an 89% Black conservative is better than 93% white conservative. “
Affirmative action for conservatism? No, thanks. You can keep that less-of-a-conservative to yourself. No racial quota when it comes to freedom.
