Early Drug Claims Suggest Exchange Plan Enrollees Are Sicker Than Average
Kaiser Health News ^ | April 9, 2014 | By Julie Appleby

Offering a first glimpse of the health care needs of Americans who bought coverage through federal and state marketplaces, an analysis of the first two months of claims data shows the new enrollees are more likely to use expensive specialty drugs to treat conditions like HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C than those with job-based insurance.

The sample of claims data - considered a preliminary look at whether new enrollees are sicker-than-average - also found that prescriptions for treating pain, seizures and depression are also proportionally higher in exchange plans, according to Express Scripts, one of the nation's largest pharmacy benefit management companies.

Our state, Washington, decided that there was a dirt cheap drug for treating pain so they decided to have it be the drug of choice for pain, for people under care covered by Washington state. Methodone. It had the unfortunate side effects of accidental death by overdose. This went on for years...

Guess what is coming.

They’re mostly the “Darwin Award” candidates.

Who would a thunk it. The chronically ill with pre-existing conditions subject to preferred risk insurance rates applied first???

Now the next surprise will be old people (like me) with chronic diseases related to age (not like me thankfully) signed up.

And the final surprise, the young and healthy don't want any part of this.

The Preexisting Condition mandate in Obamacare is the worst aspect of the entire law and it will destroy our economy and the health of people that are currently healthy by filling doctors offices with sick people.

No one would ever expect Allstate to sell a fire insurance policy to a man who owned a house that was burning down.

Actually I seem to remember reading that the "Preexisting Condition mandate" is pretty toothless. They give you insurance yes, but it does not cover the preexisting condition, just other health problems.

From what I remember you could find health plans before that would do the same thing. There were also plans that would begin to cover preexisting conditions after one year of coverage.

given this was all to enroll those without healthcare in the first place, ought to surprise NO ONE.

also these people can’t pay for it either, by and large. should again surprise no one.

the saving grace is that b/c obamacare can only work by getting its money mostly from yung healthy people not using services,

it’s’ gonna fail spectacularly. ponzi schemes usually do.

“Conversely, birth control prescriptions were 31 percent lower.”

That right there tells you it wasn’t young healthy people signing up.

A big batch of sick old queers with AIDS is what signed up, and that will drive prices through the roof!

Where is Capt. Obvious when you need him?

Sheesh! What the hell did they (really) expect? This will now be played up by the left as evidence that private (though mandated) insurance is incapable of addressing the needs of the people, and the only ‘correct’ solution is single-payer.
That is what the 0bamunists have been pushing for, all along.

This merely bolsters their sophistry.

quote “an analysis of the first two months of claims data shows the new enrollees are more likely to use expensive specialty drugs to treat conditions like HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C”

BOOM!

this is EXACTLY what I have been saying since the beginning!

ALL of this was nothing but Obama trying to get his gay butt buddies with AIDS insurance.
