In the absence of comprehensive immigration reform in the U.S. House, some Republicans are pushing for a different path to citizenship via boot camp.
Undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. before 2012 and who were 14 years old or younger would become legal permanent residents upon service in the U.S. military under legislation offered by Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA). That provides an expedited path to citizenship compared with the naturalization process. Separation from the military under less-than-honorable conditions would rescind the new residency status.
The fact that a Republican is advocating this approach, and can count several GOP colleagues among the bills 43 cosponsors, illustrates the demographic challenges facing the party. Lawmakers with significant Latino populations in states such as California and Florida are seeking incremental changes to the nations immigration policies, particularly after House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) balked at taking up an immigration bill passed by the Senate last year.

Its not surprising that Republicans would dip their toes in the water with these types of bills, said Mary Giavagnoli, director of the Immigration Policy Center at the American Immigration Council. Theres overall consensus that people are who are willing to serve their country should be able to have the benefits of citizenship.

There is a path to citizenship. Foreigners who didn’t follow it are illegal aliens.
No excuses, deport them.
Our military is being cut. Current recruiting quotas are through the floor, with the Army down 28% and Marines down 17%, with further cuts to come. Waitlist for enlistment (space in bootcamp and training) has almost doubled, from four months to over 6 months. So....how are the illegals going to enlist, and in what branch?
US Foreign Legion?
EFF NO.
worst idea ive heard since a moochelle obama bikini photo shoot.
Do you think it being a bad idea will stop the Uniparty from doing it?
the GOPe is useless and beyond help
Well.... there’s a plan! Let’s fill our military with soldiers with little allegiance to or love of the USA, and who will have a big incentive to follow orders when the powers-that-be command them to start rounding up certain (tea party) citizens for detention camps.
Yeah, let’s fill our military with soldiers that aren’t fluent in English.
...and don’t care about this country except for what they can take from it. Yeah, sounds like a plan.
