“The victims were teenage kids. A lot of them were freaked out. They were shocked. They still couldn’t grasp what happened,” Jason Wyman with the Orland Volunteer Fire Department said.

“You hear about it in the news, but you never seen anything like that,” he said.

Wyman said when he drove a water truck to the highway, both the bus and truck were fully engulfed in flames, sending thick, dark smoke into the air.
He said he was first focused on putting out the fire, and once it was under control he saw dozens of people walking wounded.

“The first victim that was taken out of the bus was severely burned,” Wyman said.

That's what I wondered, until I read it was UPS. IMHO, their driving conditions are less likely than some others to induce sleep while driving.

It looks to me like there have been some updates since this thread was posted. I wonder if this is a new addition, or maybe you overlooked it.

Investigators say the truck driver might have been trying to avoid a passenger car that was also involved in the crash, which shut down north- and south-bound traffic on the freeway.

The pictures I’ve seen on breaking news make it clear the Fed Ex driver drove over the median striking the bus. It didn’t look like the bus driver had time to do anything. You have to wonder about a health problem in the Fed Ex driver. Horrible tragedy, our prayers for the passengers and their families and anyone else affected.

Prayers for the families and others affected..

My comment about his driving for too long and such was met with the standard biting criticism from those who disagree but it was my read that experienced bus drivers USUALLY don't have this kind of catastrophe. But, there are always exceptions.
Thanks for your studied answer.

Both FDX and UPS drivers are exceptional at what they do (FD: I worked at UPS for 8 years). It will be interesting to get the full story from FDX.

What a horrific accident. My 14 year old daughter was on a coach bus yesterday driving to Orlando to Disney. When I got th breaking news at 11:30 last night and saw it was “Orland” I almost threw up with fear...
